Default How Much Will Funny People Make Opening Weekend?

Well, the buzz has Funny People winning the #1 spot this weekend. How much do you think it will make? How do you see the top 5 finishing up?

  3. G Force
  4. Aliens in the Attic
  5. The Collector

Oh yes thats true, totally forgot about the IMAX openings, its opening on about 160 domestic IMAX screens I believe.

The price of those tickets will probably help it out to number 2, I adjust my prediction accordingly

I just came back from watching it and I think that people will truly enjoy it enough to see it a second time. It definitely will be the numbe one movie this week.

$40-$50 mill

I've heard the collector is a good film as well, but it won't rake in the dough

$43 million. Sandler's summer films always manage to pull in $30-$40 million and given that this one is pretty much guaranteed to actually be good, unlike most of Sandler's summer efforts, should give it a very large opening for a comedy.

Funny People. 20-30 mil.
Harry Potter .
The Collector.
G-Force.
Aliens in the Attic.

The Collector third as Saw fans should go. G Force and Aliens will take each others takings. HP may be first with IMAX opening. Think I covered every scenario.

I think the above poll could use a 'who cares' option.

2 1/2 hours is long for a comedy. Plus a lot of people I know don't really know the film.

I'm going to watch it though. I say high 20's maybe $28 million.

Answer:

Not enough to be record shattering, much less make a poll about.

Very good points, and I completely agree that it will be in the high $20 millions. This is completely different than Sandler's previous movies like Chuck and Larry and You Don't Mess with the Zohan. Those were PG-13 movies with a teen target demographic. This is R-rated and aimed towards adults. Add in the long run time and I don't think this has much chance at breaking $30 million.

Call me a pessimist, but I think Sandler has squandered whatever appeal he used to have by cranking out one stupid movie after another. Seth Rogan and Apatow are dangerously approaching the saturation mark as well. But hey, I'm usually way off when attempting to predict the behavior of the general public because I expect them to act rationally. Then again, I don't understand the box office fetish, so I don't even know why I took the time to comment.

30-40 i think is a safe bet for this, its got a lot of names to draw people to see on that basis alone, plus it has the fact that it sounds like its going to just be a good movie altogether which will also bring in some people, all i know is some of funny people's weekend box office take is going to be my money
