Cool Watching Fewer, and fewer DVDs?!?!

Hey,

Even with the great 1080p upconversion the PS3 does, I find I almost cringe when watching DVD's (even with good DD or DTS sound).

Do you find you watch fewer, and fewer DVDs, even if you have a vast DVD collection?!?!

I am certainly watching fewer DVDs as I convert my collection to blu-ray, but am a bit surprised at just how good some recent DVDs still look on a big plasma screen.

There's no comparison when comparing to a hi-def version of the film, of course. But after having not watched standard DVD in a few months, I popped one in and thought "hey, this isn't THAT bad".

Yeah. There have been times when the wife and I go to the cabinet, look at blus and then remember, "Hey, we have 500 DVDs to pick from too!.... Let's just find a blu instead."

Cartoons like Family Guy look fine on my HDTV, but movie/live-action TV show DVD's are a tad distracting cause you can certainly notice the difference now. I'm obviously aiming to buy whatever new releases in Blu, but I just don't have the income to re-buy my DVD collection in BD.

I still watch my DVD, I got way too many of them (anime & kung fu) movies that are not even available in BD and some of them probably will never be. Why should I stop watching them because I now have BD's?

All the time. Indiana Jones, Star Wars, LOTR, Gladiator, Disney movies - War of the Worlds - I'm still all about the story line, and its not as if the PQ is unbearable. AQ is still awesome. I have about 120 DVDs.

I still watch my DVD's that is not on Blu-Ray. I doubt that some of my DVD's will ever be out on Blu so it's the next best thing.

Ever since I upgraded to watching Blus, I don't buy dvds anymore unless some of my favorites shows are exclusive to dvds only. I do watch fewer dvds but a vast majority of my dvd collecton have not been release on blus yet and maybe never. The only time I watch dvds is by Netflix, all other aside it is blus all the way.

I think if you invested heavily in DVD's, you are much more inclined to watch them, regardless of how long you have had a blu-ray player/HDTV or how many blu's you have. Of course, I'm referring to watching the DVD's that are not on blu yet.

Every now and then I find myself watching a DVD. Actually I don't choose what format I'm going to watch, I choose a movie and whatever format I have it on, I watch.

i have about 10-15 movies left on dvd
so yea, i do watch them sometimes

i'll upgrade most of those eventually
but some i don't want to spend money on again
so i'll stick to upconverting for them

i haven't become a blu-snob yet
i can still watch dvds even though i much much much prefer a blu

My 16yo nephew had never watched a Star Wars movie, so he has been coming over to watch those. Other than that, no DVDs.

The order he is allowed to see the movies in:

4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6. We just finished up ep 2, and he wants to see Ani turn to Vader. He has no idea about the "there is another..." thing.

There was a thread a while back where someone was taking their kid through Star Wars for the first time and wondered about going 4-6 then 1-3 or just going 1-6. I voted for starting w/ 4 to see it like we did, and someone through out 4,5,1,2,3,6 and it made a lot of sense. I think Jedi is a better wrap up for the whole experience than Sith.
