Arrow How did you guys become movie collectors?

What got me into it in 2003 was anime, what about the rest of you? Robotech is the reason I collect movies, it is what it is.

I've always liked movies, but what made me a collector is the Blu-ray format. I'm still an amateur collector, though.

I got a job at a video store.

I was able to find cheap Previously viewed DVD's that were in perfect or near perfect condition and that's what got the ball rolling.

Loved movies from a very early age.

That's about the size of it. As to blu ray -- just my own desire to have the best available version of the movies that I know and love.

1. An intense dislike for late fees.
2. An intense dislike for the rental store not having the movie available that I want to watch.
3. The cost of going to the theater with the wife and the crappy picture, sound, and environment that the theater provides.
4. The ability to choose the movie I watch while wearing just a pair of boxers.
5. Watching my friend's jaws drop when I suggest they go around the corner and pick out a movie.

Not really sure truthfully. When I was younger I probably had around 40 VHS tapes, although a lot of those were Disney movies. I bought a DVD player in 1998 at age 16 and started buying movies rather than renting, since that wasn't something you could usually do with VHS. I think the biggest factor may have been the high cost to rent DVDs at Blockbuster. For the first couple years I had a player they were the only place in town that had DVDs for rental, and the cost was $4.99 for 2 days. My thinking was I'd rather buy a movie for $17 than rent it for $4.99. I truly think if Redbox had been available back then I wouldn't have bought nearly as many DVDs.

Never collected VHS Tapes, but I started buying movies during the DVD age and building a collection. The allure, for me, was being able to buy a movie for $15 that cost millions of dollars to produce and watch it whenever I felt the urge.

Always love movies. By the time I was 16 working 2 jobs during the summer, I was using the money to purchase some of my favorite. Once I got a real job well nothing was there to stop me. Had a big collection of Beta, Laserdisc, VHS. Then move to DVD and now I am on BD. As soon as there is a new format I will be there as well. I love movies.

I define collecting as getting many items for the purpose of just having them. I buy movies cause I like them and want to be able to watch them (in HD to boot) whenever I please. The fact that movies pile up in my shelves is a consequence of it and not a purpose.

i dont 'collect' movies.
i ONLY buy what i like.

some people buy movies because they just came out or maybe its a sale.

i dont watch many movies to begin with, so i know what i want and buy only that.

out of all my blu's.....ive only watched 2 so far.....lol
