Default Percent of movie buying public are collectors?

Of people that buy BDs/DVDs how many of them would you say are collectors? By that I mean people that regularily buy movies, get the "collector's" or "special" edition versions that are maybe an extra disc and cost more. People that avidly walk into a Futureshop/BestBuy on Tuesdays. Things like that.

I'm going to go with less than 20%. Which is why DVD is still main-stream, non-collectors probably don't care enough to upgrade for the most part.

I would have to say a small percentage as well. Also, not all collector's have upgraded to Blu-ray and don't care to do so. Hard to gage.

I'm a collector. Hope to have my own library one day.

I see people lined up at Best Buy when I'm there early Tuesday morning, and almost every one of them go to the movie section. Not many people, but it's surprising to see.

With the affordability of many movies (especially DVDs), I think more people are buying instead of renting, which is why video stores are suffering.

I'd have to say 10% of consumers are. I don't know any1 besides myself that has the buying habits that I do.

I would definitely vote yes... but I think results here would not be an accurate sample for the general public...

I guess I am a collector but I don't pick up the "Special" or the "Collectors" additions. I love movies and try to pick them up for as cheap as possible. If the movie is not going to be that great then I get it as a DVD. I buy Blus when I know it is going to be a damn good film that I will watch again.

But my guess is the percentage of collectors vs buyers is probably pretty low

Among the general public the number is likely to be less than 5%, and that is being generous. Many people buy movies they are huge fans of, but general collectors are relatively rare. Most of them end up on boards like this and elsewhere on the Internet.

It really depends on the movie. If I enjoyed it enough in theaters, I'll buy the most supplement-packed edition. If the price is not too different from the standard edition, I might jump on it even if it is a blind buy.

I suspect it's a very small percentage overall. I wouldn't consider myself a collector. The only way to get me to pay more for a collector's edition is for it to have either:

1) An extended edition of the movie

or

2) Improved PQ or AQ over the regular release.

I have 150+ movies, so I guess I'm a collector, but that doesn't mean I buy Special Collector's Editions. I rarely buy a disc for anything but the movie, so I want the original aspect ratio and best PQ possible. I don't really care about commentary tracks or any other extra. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Grand Illusion (both DVD and both Criterion) are the only two movies I've ever bought specifically for the extras.

i guess this responses here goes to show that it depends on what you mean by "collector". add over 300 dvds to my blu ray and i dont call myself a collector.
