Default Movie Collectors.

I don't know about you guys...but does it seems ridiculous the amount of movies comming out on certain days?

It seems like it's feast or famin.

one week it's like there is nothing, or one to two movies, then you have like this week sept26 where theres like 11

theres weeks in november where there is 8 and 10 movies released on one day, then the oppossing weeks have 2 & 3

example:

October 30, 2006
Mission: Impossible III (Paramount)
Mission: Impossible - Ultimate Missions Collection (Paramount)**

November 7, 2006
Little Man (Sony)**
Reds (Paramount)

November 14, 2006
Behind Enemy Lines (Fox)**
Black Hawk Down (Sony)**
Fantastic Four (Fox)**
Kingdom of Heaven: The Director's Cut (Fox)**
Kiss of the Dragon (Fox)**
Layer Cake (Sony)
The League of Extraordinary Gentleman (Fox)
The Omen (2006) (Fox)
Speed (Fox)
The Transporter (Fox)

November 21, 2006
Annapolis (Buena Vista)**
Casanova (Buena Vista)
Enemy of the State (Buena Vista)**
Flightplan (Buena Vista)**
Goal! The Dream Begins (Buena Vista)
Ice Age: The Meltdown (Fox)**
Sky High (Buena Vista)
The Wild (Buena Vista)**

November 28, 2006
Superman Returns (Warner)**
The Usual Suspects (Fox)**
Windtalkers (Fox)**
note: ** by the movies i'm buying those days. this isn't even including the HDDVD's I want.

I just wish they could spread it out a little more, because I am trying to buy all the better films....but there seems to be too much good stuff all comming out at once!

and I can't even believe i'm complaining about this! THIS IS WONDERFUL!!!

"These are great days we're living, bros. We are jolly green giants, walking the Earth with Blu Ray players! These movies we wasted money on here today are the finest releases we will ever know. After we rotate back to the world, we're gonna miss not having any HDDVD around that's worth watching."

Yes, but remember: You don't HAVE to buy EVERY disc that comes out.

Just buy actual good movies and you might be surprised how much smaller and less daunting these lists become.

I know it's in HD, and that makes it hard, but just because it's in HD doesn't mean it's good or worth purchasing.

YMMV

Movies I normally wouldn't like I'm finding I enjoy now...because of the picture and sound i'm really drawn in.

Case in point:

TROY & AEON FLUX

I passed on those two easily on DVD...
Glad I waited as they are two of my favorite HDDVD titles I own now.

That's the problem I've having. Like there aren't enough titles coming out that I really want... I have to buy crap just cuz it's HD. Man I really had hoped I would have kicked that bad habit when I kicked DVD to the curb.

And yet they're both terrible films. They just happen to look and sound real good.

there's still alot of movies to be released, especially foreign classics that often get forgotten about until Criterion digs them up. notice how 'Kiss Of The Dragon' gets remastered but not 'Fist Of Legend', 'Shaolin Temple', 'Once Upon A Time In China', et cetera.

I love the position that I'm in... I just started really collecting movies a few months ago... I was buying DVDs up left and right, and then I realized that I was really going to dive into Blu-ray, so I sold/traded in pretty much all of my DVDs. Already with 35 BD movies on the shelf, I have eclipsed my current DVD collection and by the end of the year, I will have passed or come close to the number of DVDs I previously owned.

I'm glad that unlike many of you guys who have over hundreds or thousands of DVDs I started late in the game. Some people ask why are you buying that movie on BD? The answer is I never saw it/ owned it on DVD. Many of my first experiences with movies that you all love or that are considered classics, are in HD with lossless audio. What better way to experience a "classic"?

I love being a movie collector. I love having the disc in hand or feeling excited because class is out and now I can go to BB and purchase the Tuesday new releases. I can't wait until I have a great job and a house of my own where I can get some great quality equipment to entertain myself and others.

Yes, you were pretty fortunate...Much in the same way I guess I was fortunate to have grown up with audio cassette over 8 tracks that my dad collected, or CD vs. his huge stacks of vinyl. Being younger paid off. But I wouldn't trade the experiences I had with DVD over the last 7 years in favor of "holding off" hell, I didn't know what HD was until 3 years ago!

time will prove you too will be a victim of an outdated media type. Just sluff it off as living in the moment Besides I've been selling off my dvd's as i re-purchase the BD/HDDVD replacement which is helping to subsidize some of the cost.

So true, I get it too. Everyone some how thinks they are a movie critic and that you have to follow their general thought process around what you buy. Well, we don't spend money on Beer, cigarettes and hookers...well atleast not Beer & cigarettes...so what we choose to spend our cash on is our own friggin business! F-The Haterz!

Collecting movies is awesome...
One thing you'll find as that you get older is that the things you do, you do for you. I've got kick ass electronics (as you know) and enough games to make most collectors somewhat envious...but unfortunately non of it ever gets the two player workout it deserves. People are busy with their own lives and don't want to just come over and "Watch a flick" it's something I rather enjoy and I wish I had people who would like to come over, watch a flick...eat some bar-B-que and waste a day, unfortunately it's not so.

With that said...when you get your dream pad, and all set-up...I call shotgun on the recliner for movie night

seriously not enough people in this world willing to go to a friends place, chill, and hang out.

i moved about a year and a half ago so still working on the friend thing here. however, in so-cal my friends would come over, we'd b-b-q, get drunk, play video games (highly recomended to play a driving game like mario cart when hammered by the way), then watch movies till we passed out. it was always a blast and a great waste of a night. everyone seems so busy now that a good fun evening is lost on people with the urge that you "HAVE" to go out every night

sorry... off topic... back to that movie collecting

The weird thing, as you get older your "nesting" instincts come into play.
You want to build your own little space in this world, and that includes having a kick ass pad, with neat electronics...nice furniture, and all that.

The same people who knock us for collecting movies are the same ones that probably look to fri & saturday nights as a big event...and would feel like the world was going to come to and end if they stayed home on one of those "last chance-til next weekend" days.

Myself, being a little older...I now look at Friday or Saturday as just another day.

Hell my big highlight day of the week is Tuesday..."new release day"

W00t!
