I wouldn't say which one is the best in 2008, I've seen both of them, but myself prefer IP Man more.

the Blu-ray edition of the film is fantastic; visual and audio fidelity is superb. and, yes, the film itself was quite entertaining.

I hate to say this but since HK is part of China, a lot of "HK Movies" today are not that good anymore That being said, i don't mean any political issues

What does that mean? I think there's a lot of great movies still being made since 1997.

Just off the top of my head, any Johnny To film is worth seeing. ELECTION I & II are the equivalent of John Woo's HARD BOILED or THE KILLER. Likewise, Andy Lau's and Alan Mak's INFERNAL AFFAIRS Trilogy. Stephen Chow's SHAOLIN SOCCER and KUNG FU HUSTLE are excellent post '97 comedies.

hard boiled made in 1992, stephen chow is the only one make good movie last few years in HK, China has far more big hit in cinema in HK since 2000. problem with current HK cinema is too much depend on look than talent. Most actor/actress in hk cinema are singer, which often sing is their main talent not act ! Is like Britney spears taking role of angelie jolie.

i couldn't agree more with mugupo And like the other topic about hard to know which one is HK film, nowaday you can't really tell one because of the mainland actors and actresses are part of "HK film" like the Red Cliff.

Despite his singing background, Andy Lau has been consistently good.

There's a lot more back and forth of Singers/Actors in Hong Kong than the USA or Europe, though there's always been pop singers becoming movie stars in the USA, Sinatra, Elvis Presley, etc., up to the current day, Mark Wahlburg, Will Smith, Etc.

And it's definitely not an new phenomenon in Hong Kong, either.

Andy Lau, Leslie Cheung, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Jacky Cheung, Anita Mui, Sammi Cheng, etc., are all great actors whose careers took off well before 1997.

Of course I know that HARD BOILED is from 1992, which is why I was comparing it to the ELECTION and INTERNAL AFFAIRS, which are great post 97 films.

I have to disagree that Stepen Chow is the only director making great films in Hong Kong post 97, or even the past few years. Just off the top of my head, Johnny To, Peter Chan, Wilson Yip, Dante Lam, Andy Lau and Alan Mak have made very good to excellent films recently.

Rgarding Hong Kong pop singers, Andy Lau, Leslie Cheung, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Jacky Cheung, Anita Mui, Sammi Cheng, etc., are all great singers/actors whose film careers took off well before 1997.

Using singers in Hong Kong Cinema is nothing new.
