The Buena Vista titles look especially good so far. And with that list growing to (eventually) include the Platinum Edition DVDs, it seems Disney's becoming a lot more confident in their Blu-ray support!

Well, Blu-ray Disc's 2 year anniversary is here. We passed the 700 title mark in the US, more worldwide.
This week also is the other format's swan song, except for apparently 1 title left for those who would like to have their Freedom HD DVD collection complete.
The first title my household got was House Of Flying Daggers. 2 years later the monthly choice is hovering around the 40 title mark (see post 3)

This Apocalist is 20 months old. I remember the first time I posted it, it was relatively small

Time flies.

As always, thanks to all that post on the thread when you find covers and releases, and also to the members that contribute with dates elsewhere

It's been more than a year since I started this thread and compiled the very first list with all Blu-ray releases.
At that time HD DVD people were claiming they had lots more releases, and there were really only about 10-15 titles ahead. They were also claiming Blu-ray had no future, was Science Fiction and that it be gone soon. The PS3 hadn't been released yet and was a few weeks away. Well more than a year later, we are ahead of them by 88 releases, which means we gained on them about 5 more releases per month; 2001: A Space Odyssey, one of the greatest movies ever made, is floating around our Blu-planet ; and Warner, seeing the future, has decided for growth.

It's been a great year, a fantastic year. Thanks all for your contributions.


The Fox returned the vampire transformed and left a trail of Death Massacred behind, 28 days later
Blockbuster, Anchor Bay, more animé, relentless dominance in sales numbers. We passed 300 titles. We passed 200,000 300 sales. And you ain't seen nothing yet. Blu is on course and on target. Sly as a French fox, the mouse that majorly roared golden and with brotherhood, Blu-ray has had the numeric lead, the sales lead, and the exclusives lead for a year now, and there will never be more titles available in HD DVD than Blu-ray Disc again.

There are more than 500 different individual movie titles available in high definition disc formats in the US

And this comparison table is about to become irelevant.

In the first year, there were 236 movies released on Blu-ray Disc. In its first year, there were 154 movies released on Hd DVD. That was 53% more blu-movies in a one year period
In total, in two years, there were 539 movies released on Blu-ray Disc. There were 344 movies released on Hd DVD in two years. That was 57% more blu-movies in a two year period.

There were a total of 358 movies released on Hd DVD in its whole 26 month lifespan. There were almost as many movies (303) released on Blu-ray Disc in its second year alone, as Hd DVD movies released in it's total lifespan. There were a total of 628 movies released on Blu-ray Disc and 855 titles in Blu-ray's first 26 months.

So there were 270 more movies on Blu-ray Disc and 399 more titles released on Blu-ray Disc on the same amount of time (including concerts and documentaries and adult).

Almost all the movie titles in High Definition disc format are available on Blu-ray Disc

Therefore this comparison is hereby CLOSED. August 26, 2008.

Actually, not counting the Warner 15, there's more 90% BD exclusive movies, than HD DVD exclusive movies
