Question: Should my HD cable box be connected via component (into Onkyo 605) or HDMI? I don't think I get any upconversion via HDMI. My TV is a Toshiba 47HL167. TV info button shows 480i, 720p etc., not 1080p. Is it upconverting?
For instance: PS3 playing a 720p game, tv shows 720p. Maybe my settings are off? Thanks for any input. |

Yeah, your receiver won't upconvert images coming from HDMI, but don't worry because you don't need it. Games that are displayed in 720p usually look best at 720p. Upconverting that image serves no purpose.
As for your cable box, you can use either connection. HDMI and component will both give you 1080i/720p. Cable isn't capable of 1080p yet. Some people suggest that you use HDMI just to keep it all digital. Plus, HDMI is the cheaper way to go because you don't have to buy expensive component cables to achieve the same quality. |
