Default Best Speakers on a Budget?

Could someone recommend me some nice speakers on a fairly modest budget? I'm looking for doing a home theater system for 1000-1200 bucks. The reciever I want is the Pioneer SC-05, which runs about 750, I think. This would give me about 450 to spend towards speakers and a subwoofer.

At first I want to just do a 5.1 system and later expand to a 7.1 system, but I want a 7.1 receiver to make this a possibility in the future. I am using a LN46A630 Samsung TV as my TV and have a Samsung BDP-1500 BluRay player.

I am also open to other receiver suggestions, but I really like the Pioneer.

take a little walk over to Newegg.com and check out the Polk's. Monitor 50's 60's or 70's are a nice set to wrap a 5.1 around...

Should be in range of $450, sub may be hard to squeeze in- a hundred or two more would be perfect.

If that is your budget, I would spend less on the receiver and more on your speakers.

Energy makes a nice 5.1 setup in your price range, take a look at them.

It's just a general guideline. For two hundred more, what could I do? I just want to get a good receiver so that I don't have to really worry too much about it being the weak link in the future.

You will get MANY very good recommendations.

In the receiver I would look for:

7.1 even if you just do 5.1 for now
Pre-outs for possible separates (missed that one with my 606)
All the codecs
1 or 2 little controlled plugs would be nice (to switch things on/off like fans or lights)

Don't skimp on the front stage, so you get a little time out of it. (Front left, right, center)

What do you mean "get a little time of it?" Are front speakers notorious to blow out or something?

Upgradeitis: the need to upgrade everything, all the time

You WILL want to upgrade, the nicer you're able to buy- the longer you will probably go before wanting to (you guessed it) upgrade.

On this note, my Polk's have really been impressing me- they sound great and keep grinning, no matter what I throw their way.

I would say Monitor 60's or 70's as a backbone.

Note: I own polks and as a result- I'm biased.

I agree with Grevlin, buy right the first time to avoid upgrading every month. I'd buy the AVR and front 2, then keep adding when funds permit it.

If you dig the cherry finish, this is an almost illegal amount of bang for $130 bucks and free shipping.

Shoot, I might just order them myself... see, upgradeitis

I'm a bit of a newbie, but what are the name of the monitor series? I don't see any "Monitor" series on their website.

Grevlin gave you a good suggestion, I want to add that Energy has some deals too that you may want to check out. Personally I found Energy speakers to be GREAT, they are warm, neutral with excellent Mid range, and Highs are great without being fatiuging and the Mid bass is awesome, lower deep bass is good, but you will want a sub to get real low bass.

Try this Center and these Surrounds and then a pair of these Fronts Total $483 excellent price given they retail for about $1100.

Receiver try Pioneer or this Marantz.

With the Marantz total $1082
With the Pioneer Total $1122

From there just save up for a Sub, the eD A2-300 is about $350 or for a more budget sub give Acoustic Audio $168-198 or Premier Acoustics $229 both a try.

Dont forget you need speaker cable from monoprice.com try 12, 14 or 16 AWG. banana plugs are optional.

Monitor 50s, 60s, 70s or TSi 300/400/500 (almost the same things...)

bumping up to the c-500's towers for front left and right would only be $140 more. (it's what I would do )

I agree, this would be an awesome setup, especially if you're a newbie. It will blow you away.

It may also be worth mentioning that I'm in a third floor condo, so I can have a good amount of volume, but I don't need something that will BLOW ME AWAY, becuase I'd likely get complaints.

I would say that comes into play with your sub, riser and/or isolation pads to help control the vibration being transferred to the building. With nice speakers, you will be amazed at how low you can keep the volume and still hear excellent detail and clarity.

I'm not explaining some terms on purpose. I recommend reading through many threads especially the sticky's and 101's. I lurked (and read) for three months before starting to post.

It's a bug you catch. A hole in your living room you throw money into. But the improvement to the "experience" is priceless.
