Default Good budget speakers?

http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-NS-SP18...6083639&sr=8-2

What do you all think? It's between these and the polk 6750's... i know they are much better, but price-wise are these a decent buy? I am debating as to whether or not its worth spending the extra $100.

Without hearing either, I'd definitely say go Polk over Yamaha for speakers. But neither are going to be stellar at that price range.

I dont know if i would totally agree with this... Id definately spend good money on a receiver and slowly upgrade speakers as time went on.

Good speakers are better than a good receiver to me. All a receiver can really do is open up your speakers more, which while it is an upgrade, it won't nearly be as much of an upgrade as getting good quality speakers.

To the op, if you're really on a budget, those speakers are fine for their purpose. However, I think you would be much more satisfied with the quality improvements of buying separates as you go. Plus, it gives a sense of accomplishment to put together a system that fits you instead of going for the easy quick route and buying a htib.

The Yammys aren't too bad if you're tight on money (who isn't right now)... I have that same set but with a downfiring subwoofer instead - also ran some OLD klh floor speakers as my mains (12inch woofers) so the all around bass was pretty decent - I just changed over to some Sony ssf5000s as mains and surrounds, which really helped the oomf in my system - yeah, I KNOW sony's are cheap speakers as well, but like many a working man, I have other things to spend money on and "good enough" sound makes me happy

...so, in conclusion, I was happy with a Yammy set like that for 3 years - no problems They deffinately won't give you the sound of $1200 per speaker Deffinitives (which, honestly, will rattle the teeth out of your head and leave you unconscious and slobbering all over yourself after watching a movie)... but they'll do you just fine for an entry level surround system.

Good luck!
