Default Guys Im geting mad looking for speakers !!!

So I went into a local store and listened to some Klipsh refrence 82s,Originally my mind was stuck on paradigm monitor 9s But to be honest even though people have told me paradigm is high end better then klipsh I didnt hear or see a diffrence other then the price tag is alot cheaper. But In my head I know the paradigms are more high end and are better speakers from what I have read.

So I walk over and listen to polk audio and was thinking ohh these are going to be garbage but they were not bad at all.I liked the sound I did notice a diffrence from the refrence 82 and the polk But not $800.00 worth diffrence. So I turn to my better half and says to me they all sounded way better then the HTIB WIth no hd audio at home so the choice is yours.Dam what should I do.

P.S. Now I have another month to finalize because we just used my 2000.00 theater money on New leather sofas.Ohh well were using a $100.00 futon right now so this will improve my living room.well I have untill next month to decide on some speakers.

Diminishing returns!

Polks are very popular on this site due to their ability to balance price/performance. Go with what you think sounds good and fits your budget. Demo more speakers too if you are in an area that has audio dealers - you might find something you like that no one else has suggested.

You need to choose what sounds best TO YOU (and makes your pocket happiest). Also, make sure you are listening to them with the same receiver you plan on using. Speakers can sound different when used with an Onkyo or Denon or Yamaha.

Also, make sure you bring your own music and movies that you are familiar with. Sometimes they can put some music in and it sounds great, but you really don't listen to Frankie Valli.

Take your time. Relax. Close your eyes. If they are all at the same place and they can switch them while you have your eyes closed for an A/B comparison, you should really know which ones you like.

Good luck!

Absolute wisdom, I agree 100%.

All speakers need to be fed - be sure you have enough power in your receiver to drive them, with plenty of reserve. You don't need to break the bank to get good sound, but don't skimp now and regret later...

I'm a Pioneer fan, for several reasons - take a hard look at their new 1019, and the SC-03.

Well I m torn betwen the onkyo 806 and the 1019 I know the onkyo will dish out more power plus has the pre outs even though I dont know if I would use the pre outs but never know and good to have.

Agree completely. And while auditioning, try to make it an extended session. Some people mistake a speaker being initially louder as making it a better speaker. I would look for the most detail and the least amount of listening fatigue in your price range.

All 3 are good brands of speakers IMO, but with different types of sound. If you'd be happy with any of them, then buy whichever ones have the best price, or look the best to you, or whatever. But as mentioned take your own demo material. Use the same material all the time, and try to listen to all speakers on the same model of receiver if possible. Good luck with your setup.

OP, where abouts do you live? (city state zip) perhaps we can help you can find other HT stores that have other speakers you can audition. What is your budget too?

Everyone gave you great advise, and RELAX was prolly the at the top, this should be the funnest (i know its not an actual word ) part of the whole process. You have a month to decide, I would suggest you take each weekend and perhaps a night here and there and just keep going and listening to all speakers that you can, then you should find yourself drawn to a few specifically and you can start to pick them apart and make the best decision for you.

I suggest going alone too, only because most wifes prolly get impatient and are like they're just speakers pick some. But just like they will pick up the same shirt and pants at Kohls like 10 times before dismissing it or buying it, you need to do the same. When you have it down to a couple, bring her and ask her, what do you like? What do you think looks good? and most importantly, so your cool with me spending $XXXX?

Don't rush.. once you start getting impatient you'll end up getting a set you think sounds like the rest just because you didn't take your time auditioning... A month is plenty of time so relax and don't try to make yourself like one speaker because you've read they are better or have been recommended by more people.. you really just need to take your time and listen to as much as you can within your price range. Even if it takes more than a month - that just gives you more savings for speakers that could cost a bit more. Who knows you might even like much cheaper speakers and have more $$ put towards other gear.

Here's a good link I posted before for speaker auditioning. speakshoptips

Good luck man!!

Why get mad when shopping for HT components? It should be fun, not a problem. Take your time, check out all the possibilities, pick the speakers that fit both your budget and your need and then have fun with them. I hope you find what you are looking for.

What model were the Polks? And Klipsch preform great for movies. Not saying that they're better for movies, as other speakers can pull the duty just as well. It's just the horn they use makes them efficient and gives them that 'theatre' sound.

Paradigm I wouldn't say is better for music. If you're looking for a musical speaker, look at some B&Ws. B&Ws have a very warm natural sound. Overall I'd say that the Paradigm is a well rounded speaker that can be used efficiently in both applications.

Ok well it seems your local BB has Polks and Klipsch, so you know where to audition them.... although I will include there links too. Many high end dealers have Denon recievers in them so try to listen to everything on a Denon 3800 series (should be a common reciever everywhere)
Paradigm
Energy
PSB
Bowers & Wilkins
Def Techs
Monitor Audio
Klipsch
Polk

That should give you a great place to start, many dealers have other speakers on hand that they market as well. I know one of the ones around me has both Monitor Audio, Energy, Paradigm and B&W. One is a complete Klipsch dealer, Klipsch, Mirage, Jamo, Energy.... Anyways, take your time, hope that helps.

I am a long time Paradigm user and I can tell you that I'd call Paradigm ENTRY LEVEL HIGH END at best.

There are way higher end speakers out there.

Polks are GREAT for the money and have a nice big voice.
Klipsche will serve you well for many many years.

Stop shopping with your eyes and open your ears.

It doesn't matter what any person on any website tells you.

Your ears will know when they have found the right speaker.

Hi Lucy D,

Just curious as to what Paradigm speakers you have been using to make such a bold statement.

I've owned paradigm reference for years and have auditioned the signature S8's recently. The S8's are a great example of High End Audio.......NOT entry level as you have noted. Please keep your rookie opinions to yourself in the future...

THANKS
