Newbie to forum seeking help!
Is there a way to hook up my Blu-ray player (Samsung 1200) to my receiver (B&K AVR 101) so that I can hear DTS audio in 5.1 instead of Pro-logic? Receivers about 10 years old...is it obsolete? Hate to replace it because it still sounds great and was rather expensive at the time. |

You're in luck!
Your receiver doesn't have multi-channel inputs, nor does it decode DTS:NOTE: The AVR101 series 100 processes Dolby Pro Logic and Dolby Digital, it DOES NOT process DTS. The AVR101 can be upgraded to process DTS. Contact B&K or your B&K dealer for information on upgrades. The AVR202 series 200 processes Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Digital, and DTS. found on page 6 of your receiver manual. http://www.bkcomp.com/fileadmin/cont...AVR101-202.pdf But, your Blu-ray player does. Hook your Blu-ray player up to your receiver using either digital optical toslink input or digital coaxial input. In your Blu-ray player menu, set audio to PCM or so that the player decodes the audio. You'll never be able to get lossless audio with this receiver/Blu-ray player combination, but at least you'll get Dolby Digital & DTS. ![]() |

Does your receiver support DTS? If not, you will probably need to have your BD player do the conversion and pass it out analog outs to your receiver. If you cannot do that, then I think you may be SOL and will have to bite the bullitt and get a new receiver.
EDIT: I was too lazy to do the leg work like ZIPPO was willing to do. ![]() |

No need to replace your B&K receiver if your happy with Dolby Digital or DTS.
It's a shame that B&K Components didn't include multi-channel inputs especially on a $2500 receiver. ![]() I purchased a Sony ES receiver around the same time your B&K was made. It only cost $800, but Sony included multi-channel inputs, thank God. Last edited by ZIPPO; 08-17-2009 at 03:37 AM. |
