Default IronMan discs quit working

I have the dual-disc IronMan, think I bought it at Walmart, and it was working fine with my Vaio AR-630E back in November. Went to play it last week and nothing - it's as if no disc was inserted. The same is true for disc 2. All of my other Blu-Ray movies play in the laptop just fine. There are no scratches on the IronMan discs.

It's not a software issue, because even Windows (Vista32 SP2) doesn't see anything in the drive. Nonetheless, to answer question, "WinDVD BD for Vaio" is fully up to date - just downloaded the latest key update from Corel last week. The actual drive hardware is "Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500A".

So I sent a support request message via paramountbluray.com several days ago and haven't heard anything. Has anyone else had success getting Paramount to replace a bad disc? Any tricks or tips on getting their attention?

My original copy of shooter started stopping about 6 minutes into the film EVERY time in the same spot. Just bought the replacement copy.(plays perfectly) Same situation though....no scratches? Didn't know discs could go bad? Let us know what you find out...

LD's rot??? Damn, I didn't know that. I have a few LD's that I hope to someday transfer to DVD. I better get on it.

Have you tried the disc in a real blu-ray player? It sounds like more of a problem with your computer's drive than the actual disc.

Maybe Blu-Ray's don't rot in general, but how much of a coincidence can it be that BOTH discs of Ironman stopped working? Maybe the OptiArc BC-5500A is sensitive to whatever degraded, but that degradation has only happened to Paramount's discs - of course Ironman is the only Paramount movie in my collection so far.

I dont' have easy access to a standalone player. Can we get back to the original question please, how does one get the attention of Paramount?

Again, did you try the disc in an actual blu-ray player? It's a bit of a leap to say that it's a problem with Paramount based upon one title (which you still haven't confirmed there is an actual problem with).

Could be the drive on your computer.

I'd take both the discs to the nearest retailer selling Blu-ray hardware and check them on one of their players. I could maybe see one disc failing, but not two at the exact same time.

Good luck with getting this fixed, btw, although I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a reply from Paramount.

When they're the only two discs I own that were manufactured in a particular plant at around the same time using the same base materials... seems quite logical that both would suffer the same failure. They probably didn't both fail on the same day, but since I didn't play them daily, I don't know when each one failed.

Remember that there was some issues with the initial run of Ironman and all the bad discs were supposed to be have been recalled. But what about those that slipped through the cracks? I heard about Paramount replacing bad discs in another topic here, and if so, how was that accomplished?

I had this happen to me with my "I am Legend" disc.

blu-rays don't scratch, but they do smudge.

Did you wipe the finger prints off the bottom of the disc?

blu-rays DO scratch.

Also: There was LD rot. There was DVD rot (separation of the layers). I wouldn't rule out BD rot of some kind.

they don't scratch from dropping them on the floor or even rubbing steel wool on them.

If you take a knife to them, you they will scratch. But beyond extreme measures, bd's don't scratch.

Its been a while since the last time I watched my Iron Man Blu-Ray. I'll have to pop it in and see if mine if still working.
I have yet had any problems with any of my Blu-Rays. I hope they dont fail? As I have over 200 Blu-Rays now.

Well DVD's do.

To the OP: You need to test those discs on another player, before blaming them. Go to a store if you have to.

I've had a couple that were scratched before they were sealed up and put on the store shelf!

oh, wow. that's a new one on me. I guess I was wrong. I wonder if that was a processing malfunction, like the machines scratched the disc...

Very likely. The most recently "issue" I had was with the Dirty Harry box set. Both "Magnum Force" and "Sudden Impact" were scratched ("Magnum Force" had 3 scratches in fact). Fortunately Amazon switched the set and the replacement was perfect.
