Thumbs down Question about TV.

I have a 42" Phillips 1080p LCD 42PFL3704D/F7 and today while watching "Last House On The Left" I had too much grain on screen, but what really bothered me was this "flashing" effect I kept seeing throughout the entire flick. I had a similar distraction with "Miss March".

Now there is no way this can be normal and I am no HD expert.
I have not had my TV professionally calibrated.

So is "calibration" a must, or does the initial TV set-up pretty much does it?

I would start with the most obvious thing. Make sure that all your HDMI cables are securely fastened. Pay attention to any motion control feature your tv may have. You may want to try turning it off and on to see if you pick up any differences. Another thing I discovered personally was my Blu-ray players 24hz (films are shot at 24 frames per second, industry standard) setting was causing some motion blur for me, witch may be a little of what your experiencing. Try switching that off and on to look for differences. As for grain, I have seen a lot of movies that have a ton of grain in them and some that have virtually none. Its hit and miss on Blus, and may just be the movies and not your player. Look into theses couple items that I described and see if they help you at all.

thanks man. I'll check it out ... I don't think it's the HDMI.
My PS3 is tranferring at 24hz. So I'm going to play around with the set-up and see what comes.
