Default Late Night TV vs Cable (Pretty darn close)

I was just trying to figure out which show I was going to buy during the present $39.99 sale thats going around. (Bestbuy/Amazon, Lost S 1-4, True Blood, Sons of Anarchy, etc.) And it occurred to me that late night TV shows, (say after 9pm) are getting away with murder! (Trust me I'm not complaining, just now seeing it more often)
Shows like Rescue Me for example mine as well be on HBO or Showtime.
Two questions:

1. Do you find yourself buying or wanting the risky cable shows for more content and repeat viewings, or is late night TV enough for you?

2. What can't late night TV get away with? And do you think it's just going to get worse? Or better! (There was a time when kissing was a big deal on TV, there were seperate beds on Lucy, and they were married!
