Default Star Trek III Question

My family and I are currently living in an apartment, and I'm unable to use my full HT for viewing BDs. So I'm using my PS3 hooked up via component video to my SDTV as well as a HP laptop with BD-ROM Multi-Drive. Since the latter has a 16:9 viewing screen, it's my preferred method for viewing my Blus. On to the point of this post: In certain scenes featuring the Excelssior, the saucer support and some of the gridwork of the warp nacelles exhibit noise that I can only describe as moire. Is this actually how the transfer looks on a full 1080p display? Or is it the limitations of my laptop? I checked out the same scenes on the PS3, and the problem did not appear. However, I don't really trust that test since the TV is not HD, let alone 16:9. Appreciate any and all feedback.

Could you give the exact time that this appears, to insure we are looking at the same exact moment. I know the ship appears for only a few shots, but it would be most helpful.

The first time I noticed it, was after Kirk says, "My friends, the great experiment: The Excelssior." The shot switches to show the Excelssior in full frame. It's here that the noise was most apparent on my laptop. It happens again when the Excelssior breaks down while attmepting to engage trans-warp drive during its pursuit of the Enterprise. Thanx berdmoen.

I just watched this a few days back on a 32" Vizio LCD (with an 80gb PS3 as the player) and saw nothing that stuck out as unusual. The Vizio is 720p/1080i, but I hardly think that it wouldn't be apparent even at that resolution.

You are likely seeing a moire pattern due to downscaling an HD image to a small laptop screen.

I have to agree. I watched it tonight and didn't see any noise in those scenes.
