Default What's the lifespan of good BD-R media?

For what I've read in these forums and others, people seem to agree in that the best quality media is made by Verbatim these days. I wonder, however, what is the real lifespan of Verbatim or other good quality BD-R media. I've had a terrible experience with Memorex BD-Rs recently, which I purchased in January because I had rarely had any problems with their DVD media, but these turned out to be junk. After I authored and burned them they played perfectly fine, but four months later one would not play at all and the others played with stutter, in the same player (Sony BDP-S300). This left me with a sour taste when it comes to BD-R. I have since purchased a couple of Verbatim and they work fine, but I still have to see what happens a few months from now.

I have a lot of personal video in HD that I have to edit and author to BD-R, but I don't know exactly, and I couldn't find anywhere online, how long are they supposed to last. DVD media lasts from 8 to 10 years, should I assume the same for BD-R? Does anybody know if there have been tests done on this? I know about the gold BD-Rs, but those are way too expensive.

Didn't know that there was a maximum number of writes on a BD-RE.

Yes, that’s the case with any phase-change media (BD-RE, DVD±RW, CD-RW, etc.).
