I have an external UJ-120 player which came with ONLY the 2 USB cables. One with a standard type small rectangular shaped USB plug which plugs into the back of the player and the other is a hollow round pin type of connecter which plugs into the power socket also on the back.
It seems to me that one USB is for the data and the other for power....perhaps both deliver power? I have both plugged into a POWERED USB HUB. I would have thought this would provide enough power to properly play Blu-Ray Discs? Anyway, I am having a great deal of trouble getting Blu-Ray movies to play. Usually, I can hear the unit spinning up the disk and trying to load it....it then makes a "squeeking" sound and stops and then trys again and again until it finally gives up. Regular DVDs play fine on a consistent basis. Most of the time, when I bring up the "COMPUTER" screen showing all of the Drives, the BD Drive Icon doesn't even recognize that a Blu-Ray Disc is inserted in the player! The strange thing is that I can get the Blu-Rays to load and play maybe one out of every 20 times that I insert the disk and close the door!! I can't figure out why this is??? It seems it is just on the edge of being able to play consistently....that is why it MAY be insufficient power supply that is causing this failure to load and play? I am going to order a 5V 2A round pin AC/DC adapter and see if using an adapter vs the USB Power route will fix it, as it appears was the case with an AMAZON reviewer of this product ? Another hint is that some of the sellers of the UJ-120 External Drives ARE now including an AC/DC Adapter in the kit....why do that if it will play Blu Rays fine without it, using only USB power? Any advise would be appreciated. I will post again after I get the Adapter to advise if that corrected the problem PS: In doing a Google search, it is clear that many owners of this drive are having issues playing Blu-Ray discs!
