Default To the headphone guys, looking for some help (first time buyer)

Hi guys, I'm new to the headphone game so I have a few questions. I can't watch movies or listen to music late and have been looking at some Sennheisers for a while now. Based on price and practicality, I've had my eye on either the HD595's or the HD555's, but am looking for some advice on which will suit me best.

Now, I'm not an audiophile, but I do listen to a lot of music and watch a lot of movies and I just want them to sound great. Since I'm not a dedicated audiophile, I don't have a headphones amp. I usually just listen to music on my PS3. Also, the majority of my headphone use will be for listening to music and watching blu-rays late, playing computer games and watching Netflix movies on my computer, or listening to my iPod.

So my first question is: knowing what my primary headphone use will be, are the 595's worth the extra cash? I have no problem paying the extra money if I will be more happy with them.

Second, does my receiver, an Onkyo 805, act as an effective amp to drive these headphones? I know it's not a dedicated headphone amp, but does it act as an amp and give them more power than say, plugging them into an iPod? This is probably my main concern because I'd love to be able to watch movies/listen to music using some nice headphones plugged into my 805.

Well I appreciate any help, thanks in advance

The 595 are Audiophile Headphones & they are pretty good Headphones but if you are going to listen to them at night time then it's not a very good idea having a pair, I suggest you buy yourself a pair of wired headphones (stay away from wireless) as to what you wan't, it all comes down to how much $$$ you want to spend:
I have the Sennheiser 650 & also a pair of the HD 25-1 II both great headphones but very different, the HD 25-1 II are closed headphoes & have a lot of BASS they look great & are very well built, I usually wear them at night when everyone is asleep & they are great.
The 650 are an open headphoe set (audiophile) also great the sound reproduction is simply amazing, crisp, clean & very well balanced sound is close to perfection but that's just my opinion.
Both sets are very comfortable, as to you amp well it doesn't really metter there, if you can afford a decent set of headphones im sure they will sound great on your amp

I appreciate you posting but I'm kinda confused by what you said, and I didn't really get any answers . I'm also not looking at the buying the 2 headphones that you gave reviews for, they're out of my budget lol. Back to the ones that I did mention, the 595's aren't wireless, they're wired. And why is it a bad idea to listen to them at night? I don't really know what that means.

I'm just excited right now at the idea of getting my first set of nice headphones. I guess I need to know if my 805 will actually make a difference if I got a nice pair of headphones, otherwise I'd probably just end up getting something cheaper and save the extra money. But I'd like to buy a nice pair like the 595's because a lot of the reviews that I read said that they were great even without an amp

What I meant was the 595 are audiophile headphones (open) so the sound can also be heard by the people around you, no good for night listening if people around you can hear whats going on specially if you are going to listen to loud music.
As for the wireless headphones I simply meant stay away from them I've heard & read bad stuff about them.

What you want is something from this range (closed back headphones):

Ok gotcha, but I think I misspoke. I don't need to be absolutely silent, I'm in my own room. I can watch movies at lower volumes on my sound system late at night, just not loud. Which is why I was thinking of getting headphones. Plus, I listen to a lot of music in general, so I'd love to have a nice set. I really think if the 595's will sound good with my 805, then those are the ones I'd like to get. And who knows, maybe a nice set of headphones will help me become more of an audiophile, I do come from a musical-eared family

So does anyone know if they'll sound better with the 805? Maybe I should just pm Big Daddy
