Hello, Hope all is well. I have a question about the crossover settings on my system. Here is what i have; BOSE 201 V (fronts), VCS-10 (center), and Bose double cubes for rear surround. My receiver is Yamaha RX-V663 and my woofer is Yamaha YST-315

That would be correct, for the most part. Bose cube speakers actually cut off around 250hz so 200hz is a little low since the speakers probably will not be able to go that low. With your speaker and subwoofer setup, you will likely have a 100hz or more audio gap in frequency response. The center channel is similar to the Bose cubes so dialog may not sound natural or right. The fronts may be able to play down a bit lower than your cubes; perhaps 120hz or so.

Thanks for the response, So basically i just need to ditch the BOSE. Im slowly moving to a full Yamaha setup, but in the meanwhile, any ideas on how i should set the crossovers?

Oh, sorry about the subject line. I went in the Kitchen and my little one decided to add her own subject and send it for me.

I'm sure plenty of people here will back you on the decision to ditch the Bose altogether. In the meantime, your current settings are probably about the best you'll be able to get. As you continue to upgrade your speakers, keep in mind that you can do MUCH better than Yamaha when it comes to speakers. They make great receivers. Speakers, not so much.

The Yamaha RX-V663 has one global crossover setting for all speaker set to small (and all your speakers should be set to small). Therefore you should set the crossover to above the speaker with the highest low frequency limit (by highest I mean if a speaker has a range of 40-20,000 Hz ±3dB and another has 120-20,000 Hz ±3 dB then you would have to set your crossover to at least 120 Hz but more probably to 130 Hz). Now the problem is that Bose don't publish their frequency range therefore you should probably stick to what the YPAO setup determined. As a final note, 200 Hz as a crossover is not the best since at that frequency the sound become localized. Also your sub as a highpass of 140 Hz meaning there will most likely a gap between 140 and 200 Hz. Fortunately, the crossovers are gradual so you won't loose everything. |

Thanks. I guess I got some serious researching to do before i start making purchases. So, are you saying just leave the crossover setting at 200Hz in the receiver. What about the sub, should i set it all the way to 140 or turn it down? Thanks again

LOL. It's funny, but honestly you may want to PM a moderator and ask them to change it for you. I can relate- my daughter's done something like that before.
