Default Colour film tints are annoying

Is anyone annoyed at some recent films and how blue they look everything looks the same colour. The worst one ive come across is harry potter and the order of the phoenix i have to actually change my colour setting on my tv from cool 2 to warm 1 to counter act it.The outside scenes are fine also those in candle light but all the others look blue. The worst bit is when they're in the room of requirement.Has anyone else noticed this on this film? Why do they do this to the film wouldnt it be better left alone? also superman returns seems to have a blue and green tint to it too.All the other films ive got are fine so they cant be anything wrong with my equipment.Ive noticed the shadows on white though especially snow look blue,i noticed that in the HD trailer of star trek (09) where he's climbing out of the hole maybe others could check these scenes out for me on theres.

its an expensive process, its called colour grading, although it can be done manually, most movies today do it as a digital intermediate.

Yeah...This drives me F****ing nuts. It seems to ruin some films for me. 'Minority Report' was on a HD channel last week and that ugly blue throughout the WHOLE MOVIE just wears on you(I would buy the Blu-ray on it if it were not for that awful picture).

I think the worst one off the top of my head is 'Charlie's Angels Full Throttle' that has some kind of ugly washed out yellowish tint which makes me want to puke my guts out.

I assumed that the reason certain movies did it was because of HEAVY CGI use to help hide the flaws in it which would otherwise take a little bit more money and time to fix.

Pirates of the Caribbean I and II didn't have this problem at all.

The worst offender of colour grading is The Underworld movies, the three of those were more blue then smurfette's ****

I don't have a problem with it. The director is obviously going for a style, so its no big deal.

I agree, the director wanted the film to be viewed this way... I have absolutely no problem with it.

Not a hindrance except for Rise of the Lycans that overdoes it.

I don't mind some stylized color grading, but sometimes it's inexplicable to me. I recently watched "I Love You, Man", and the whole thing had this ugly dull brown hue to it.... I see that look in a lot of new movies, especially comedies, not sure what they're trying to achieve

I agree with the OP, movies that are over saturated with a single color drive me nuts. I know that that look is what a director is going for but i personally would enjoy them more without it.

I don't believe the whole "it was the directors' view". It is on 75% of movies today. Just seems like a fad to me.

also agree.

Just like the matrix had a reason.

When they are inside the matrix, blu is replaced digitally with green to have a synthetic feel. but when they are outside you see blue hues. subliminal mood coloration.

Umm no you don't use a colour filter to hide CGI flaws. In fact it can make a real stunt for example in Live Free or Die Hard when a car flips in a tunnel and crashes onto 2 other cars, the real stunt always makes my brain think "CGI!" but I know it was real and I think this happens to me because of the blue filter they used which gives the cars an artificial look in the dark.

And I don't mind it 99% of the time because as said before that was the Director's intended look of the movie and I don't get why people don't notice the brown/orange look in Batman Begins or the blue filter in The Dark Knight.

The only movie I disliked the use of it was in Live Free or Die Hard it's almost like they just discovered a new toy and they played with it as much as possible. Like in the 1 shot you may have a blue filter over the background, enhanced yellows in taxi's and a orange tone in the actors skin.

I just watched Dracula and I loved the colour of that movie.

Wonderful BLU because of this!

Your TV should not be set on cool anything for correct playback. This setting is to give a fake brightness in the showroom and is not the correct color temperature to which movies are graded to. The correct color temperature for the REC601 standard for all DVD and blu-ray playback is 6500K, which is usually the 'Warm' setting on display devices. This will also give you a wider color gamut.
