I got Casino Royale on blu ray today and watched it. It looks amazing, there's one problem though and I'm hoping it can be fixed. The picture is very off colour, sort of yellowy/orange, especially on the skin tones, the complexions on the faces look off if you know what I mean. Why is it like this and anyone else having problems? My PS3 is connected to my HDTV via HDMI. Could it be the HDMI? Or is it the blu ray? When selecting HDMI video output (or something like that) on the PS3, there's three options, automatic, RGB and another. The only one that works for me is the RGB one. In the other two the picture is bright pink and green. Any ideas??? Would really appreciate it. Hope I can sort this out.

Instead of focusing on Bond, focus on the other people and other things. You'll find that they look alright. So really, it's just Bond.

Well, there is one possibility that it's your HDTV. On some HDTV, there's a feature that is commonly called 'Flesh Tone'.
If your HDTV happen to have it, turn it off and it'll instantly look better. Though this sometimes only can be done by accessing the service menu. |

Not sure if it's got this.
It does have a tint button, where I can play around with the colour, but I've never had to do this watching TV or playing games. |

Well, if you are playing games on the PS3 and don't feel the need to correct the color, it can't be the PS3. Since games don't usually use a lot of the colors a movie would have in it, it is either your TV or it is the way the director wanted you to see the movie.

maybe your TV has red push?
On a Sony Blu-ray disc's menu (the Bond disc is one), press 7669 Enter, you'll get a color bar. Get some very deep red gel (or camera lens) color filter. Look at the bars though it. If the red bar is much brighter than the grey bar on the left you may have red push. You can double check wiith a DVD that has color bars too. Also could be that your TV has a much redder than standard red primary but this is rare. |

Not going to be able to do that because I'm using my PS3 controller at the moment. Planning on getting the remote though. Thanks for the tip. On viewing it again and on viewing the trailers on the same disc, I'm not too concenred. The colour on the trailers looked fine by me. Maybe it's just the movie. How did Casino Royale look on your TV?

You can type 7669 with the controller. When in the main menu, press the triangle button. There you can click on the 7669 numbers with the controller and get to the test patterns (they include a resolution/overscan monoscope and solid colors too.
Casino Royale looked stupendous here. Like a glossy Bond Vogue magazine shoot. |

I did what you said but I didn't get a colour bar come up? Nothing shows. I have version 1.51.
Just wondering why I can only get RGB for video output. When using the other two (automatic and Yr******) the picture is BRIGHT pink. Any ideas? Is it the TV? REALLY want to get this colour thing sorted. Last edited by Piglet; 04-01-2007 at 12:50 PM. |

Well if you can get a hold of anything truly red, or deep blue, and transparent, you can do a fairly good preliminary check.
Don't you have 3-D red and blue glasses handy, or transparent red or deep blue school project sheet covers? ![]() Stack them up till the colour is so deep that the opposite color bars (for blue those are yellow green and red, for red those are cyan green and blue) become black or very dark when looking thru the colour. Of course proper colour filters are best. Usually blue is adjusted first, with tint and colour, until the blue component colour bars (light grey on the left, cyan, magenta, blue) are equal in intensity or lightness while the other ones (yellow green red) look black with the blue filter. Something like this: ![]() Then you check if the red components (light grey, yellow, magenta, red) are equal intensity while the opposite ones (cyan, green blue) look black with the red filter. If there's red push the red bar and maybe the yellow too will be lighter and more intense than the light grey bar on the left is through the red filter. Since skin tones are actually orangeish in chromaticy, they might be affected, and if you can't turn off red push, the only solution is to decrease saturation a little to get normal skin colours at the expense of the other colours. Your decision. Summary: thru blue: grey yellow cyan green magenta red blue thru red: grey yellow cyan green magenta red blue thru green: grey yellow cyan green magenta red blue |
