Eurogamer, Joystiq/Engadget, PSU and others I'm sure with this story.
Apparently you can now get a PSPgo for £199! The only thing is.. Months ago GAME were selling for £180 for a very limited time, Tesco £199.99 for several months, ending last month. Two of the retailers highlighted now (Play.com and HMV) even have been selling it for £199 for weeks prior to release. So why whinge about the price, quoting SRP/RRP when better deals are available? Why release a story now that a few others like GAME and Amazon have joined in? Because it makes it look like the PSPgo's not selling! Wonderful, helpful gaming/tech press! Better deals have been available for ages. The media's pretending these deals are just starting now that the go's been released. And what kind of screen and carry frame do you get with that $300 PS3? I think your logic is faulty. |

I can't follow .... mainly because I don't know the current exchange rate for one thing.
I was surprized that Bj's sells the Go for $239 which is $10 under what I thought was certainly a fixed price. I have a $10 off anything over $100 which would make it $229 and I'm thinking of going to get it. Not sure If I will really enjoy it because I don't have money for games for it right now... I would mostly play demos and fill it up with MP3's, Mp4's and Jpegs. ![]() =Brian |

![]() But as I've said before, the PSPgo seems more an experiement than anything else. Sony is trying to see just how feasable a download-only device is before they unleash the next-gen handheld. In that sense, the $250 tag makes sense: 1) Sony minimalizes any losses on hardware sales up front, thereby presuming they aren't going to sell a ton of them anyway; 2) those that will pony up for the device at $250 are likely the early adopter-types who will be more likely to put all the device's features through their paces--effectively testing the technology--moreso than a casual gamer might. It will all make sense come PSP2 time, right? ![]() |

![]() For example, I highly doubt the originator of these articles bothered to fact-check on price history (if they can't do it on Google in 90 seconds, it seldom gets done). Likely they saw the price £25 less on some web site, had a vague familiarity with people complaining over the price of the Go, and ran with some hypothesized story about "retailers slash price on PSP due to abysmal sales." Either that, or they latched on to some anti-Sony forum posts somewhere and used it as the basis for a hyped-up article, which happens more often that people realize (*cough*cnet*cough*). Quote:

I know what you meant. If the US dropped it to $199, everyone in Europe would buy it from the US and none would sell in Europe. But my logic doesn't make sense since the Slim is $299/£299.
Is there any region coding on the PSP's? Thanks JW for the symbols ![]() |
