Default Blu-ray long waits from Blockbuster Online

I have the 3 movies at home deal from Blockbuster online. Since I have switched to Blu ray, I have noticed that all of the new releases (and some non new releases) are at least a week or longer wait time. So I am paying $20.00 a month to wait for new releases to come in.

Anyone else have this problem with blockbuster???

Does netflix do any better with new releases on Blu-ray?

Blockbuster has been sending me the new releases in my queue pretty regularly since I switched from Netflix. I have the three at a time deal as well and I try to get three new releases each week. I try to drop my movies off at a store on Monday afternoon and they send the movies on Tuesday. Netflix wouldn't ever send me Blu-ray new releases. I would have empty slots and they would just pass the Blu's over for something else. I got tired of it so I switched. I've been pretty happy with Blockbuster. I switched about a month before they went Blu-ray exclusive so I don't know if their service is better or not, someone else will have to answer that.

It takes me a long time to get the blu's as well. What i do is load up my Queue with TONS of SD movies, whetehr I have heard of them or not and then go in tuesday am and get the blu's in store. It's also the way I have been re watching lots of movies on blu.

I started a thread awhile back about switching to blockbuster because of long waits from Netflix. I went ahead and did their free trial, but shortly afterwards Netflix increased their blu numbers so the whole thing was moot. I find that it is much easier to get more blus faster through netflix. Aside from the return to a local store thing I really wasn't impressed with blockbuster. The in store selection was pathetic so I couldn't see a reason to stay after the trial. I am back to netflix and happy at least until they raise the prices.

I think it depends on where you live and how many people in your area have blu

I got August Rush, Dan in Real Life and Sleuth yesterday. Blockbuster has gotten much better the past few months.

It also depends on if you are classified a "heavy user" with either service. If you keep a lot of movies in your queue, then they both keep you waiting for new releases. I never have more than 3 movies in my queue and I always get new blus the day they are released. Living in a big city area with several distribution points also helps.

This doesn't apply to online rental, but to blu-ray rental overall...I think it is rediculous how hesistant, or so it seems, for the rental industry, e.g. Hollywood and Blockbuster, to have hardly no investment in blu-ray rentals. It's like they are thinking, "I don't know if we should order 10 copies of a new release blu-ray movie or not, I don't think there is anyone out there with an HD-TV or blu-ray player so we will just get one copy per store"

At least that has been my experience...I went into Hollywood yesterday and tried to pick up a copy of No Country for Old Men on blu-ray to rent and the only copy they had bought was rented. I finally was able to get the solo copy of We Own the Night (good movie!) on blu to rent after weeks of waiting...I think blu-ray rentals need to be stepped up everywhere regarding available copies.

Just to clarify, you are saying that a "heavy user" doesn't get as many new releases? So you only keep the three movies you want them to send you and then just put three more in after they were sent?

When Netfilix says "very long wait" or "long wait", they mean it.

I currently have about 15 or so movies in my Q. I have one at home, and 8 of the 15 are currently classified as "long - very long wait".

If knocking my Q down to only 2 or three movies will help speed the process, I'll gladly do that.

I am very frustrated with the lack of blu from blockbuster.

Yes, if you have a lot of movies in your queue, they keep sending the least popular out first. By keeping only two or three movies in my queue, it does not give them any options. This strategy has worked consistently except for one occasion when I was a couple of days late in putting in a new release.

Let me state this again from other similar threads such as this one. Blockbuster has always been more convenient for me in a way that I can exchange unwanted movies at my local Blockbuster stores. And I usually stock up my queue with new releases about a week ahead of time so that I don't have to worry about long wait times.

I understand that, but I can only rent 5 from exchange in the store.

I guess I'll try the "few in my Q" technique and see how it goes. I also just sent an email to Blockbuster Online letting them know of my dissatisfaction with their Blu stock.

I switched from Netflix because every Blu that came out said very long wait. I wasn't getting anything at all. Blockbuster was doing better I even got 30 Days of Night right when it came out but now my queue is littered with long wait and very long wait. I don't get it. What changed? They skipped HItman and Dan in Real Life on me and sent me Sleuth. I've still got Michael Clayton, Elah, Old Men, Jessie James, Gone Baby Gone plus others all sitting there on Long Wait or worse.

This has got to be BS. I have 400+ movies in my queue and I've gotten every Blu-ray new release the day it's released at the top of my queue. I'd list the movies I've gotten day of release but I'm to lazy. It's been a lot though. I have only a handful of movies that have anything other than "Now" listed. Unfortunately I think the distribution center you are out of has more to do with it than anything else.
