wifi is different from what you are asking about , correct me if i am misunderstanding you are referring to a air-card where as you can get internet anywhere opposed to Wi-Fi where you can only connect to the internet in certain locations if its public.

If you are indeed talking about air-cards usually the speeds with verizon are good i have personally used Att and never had any problems and speeds where great because i basically got internet wherever i could get a cell signal.

I would go with AT&T but you can always shop the prices , speeds and see what fits you best.

i have att, works decent. it all depends on the coverage in the primary places you will use it. if you have a cell phone from a particular provider and you are happy with the coverage, use that provider, you could be eligible for some package discount, plus you have a general idea of coverage already in the areas you frequent.

things you should know, there are limits on the amount of data you download before being charged overage charges, even on "unlimited" plans.

its not good for gaming because response time is slow, but download speeds can be fast, even faster than your home connection, depending on the provider, and what type of home setup you have.

if theres no cell coverage there is no data coverage.

sometimes downloads can be slow if your area has too many subscribers, iphones etc competing with you for bandwidth.
