DMC86X is likely talking about a professional calibration where someone will come to your home and make adjustments to your television to optimize its picture quality and color-accuracy.
There are a couple things you can do, yourself. I'm not sure if your particular W-class Sony TV has the 120Hz panel (or in your case, being UK, 100Hz). It might help you if you turn off the "Motion Enhancer" if it is so-equipped (in the TVs menu). Sony's Motion Enhancer is an algorithm which creates "interpolated frames" to smooth the motion in between native video frames. These interpolated frames can intruduce video artifacts which can contribute greatly to motion blurring. Some people like the "live" look of frame interpolation. I prefer it off for maximum picture quality. Also, turn off video noise reduction as well. Some picture processing features, though useful at times, can also degrade other aspects of picture quality. Good luck! |

It's a mixed bag. There are some movies in 24p that will from time to time jitter around as if someone bumped the camera while filming. Motionflow helps to eliminates that. However like Rob J said it has two drawbacks: Makes 24p movies look live instead of like film or cinema and it can cause motion blurr. I leave mine off while watching 24p movies on Blu-ray. I also turn off CineMotion. Neither is good for Blu-ray viewing. Cinemotion applies an inverse 3:2 pulldown which defeats the whole purpose of having a 120 Hz TV or 100 Hz in your case. Just leave them off when you watch Blu-ray movies and you'll be fine. |

My TV does the same! I dont think calibration will fix it. Some movies have more motion blur than others. I just don't set my TV's 120 Hz to high, I keep it at medium or low. If I keep it at high then I start to get addicted to the smooth and flowing motion.

Turn of motion interpolation and have the right pull down on, and it will look fantastic. If you have a 120hrtz set you want a 5:5 pulldown, and no motion interpolation and it'll look fantastic.
Also you can calibrate yourself using such discs as DVE hd basics (albiet not nearly as good as an ISF calibration it is most certainly worthwhile). Let us know if this fixes your problem, my sister had the same issue on here 22" bravia and once it was all set-up properly it worked flawlessly. |
