How much of a concern is motion blur for a Samsung 52" LCD?
Just when i think i made my mind up with plasma, I start getting hung up on screen size again so I'm wondering how much of a difference there is between Panny plasma and Sammy LCD. I will admit that at a glance in store, I found myself more drawn to the samsung LCD before i even knew it was an LCD. I actually thought it was a plasma...oops. My eyes usually don't lie and I like the brightness but I do a lot of action movies/gaming so I want ZERO blur and want to sacrifice ZERO in quality by boosting response rate. |

To me, any type of motion blur makes things unwatchable. I've had plasmas for over 5 years, now, and could never go with an LCD. This week, we visited friends in Charlotte, and they just got a new 52" Toshiba Regza LCD. My buddy was so proud of his new set, but it was painful to me watching football, HD cable and even Iron Man on BD. The blur was just too obvious, and it was even a 120Hz set. Maybe I'm just overly sensitive to it?

At the end of the day it depends on if you want, bright, vivid not natural tones from an LCD, or natural tones and deep blacks from a plasma. |

Bottom line is I do not want motion blur. i get none of that with my current DLP. I'm a picky bastid and any type of blemish like motion blur will drive me insane.
In reviews I'm reading people state they do not notice it in the higher end samsung models so I never know what to believe. Although 120 hz might help, I certainly don't want to lessen the picture quality to avoid the blur. that defeats the purpose. I also just read an article that says Plasma will become obsolete?? what the??? http://www.audioholics.com/education...ila-crt-page-3 |

I agree, now that I won a plasma I was at my friends house watching batman and it looked so fake I couldn't even watch it I was like whats wrong with your tv lol. Anywho plasma is the way to go! I do have an LCD as well but I will keep that to late night viewing so I don't notice it as much.

Yes brett is refering the the pixel response time, and it is always getting better, I have seen 2ms & 4ms response times on lcd's before too. I have had my samsung for a full year and never experience motion blur, my response time is 8ms and I have a 60hz refresh rate. As Aramis said, 120hz isn't what makes the picture unnatural, its the motion enhancement which should be turned off.
One thing you could do is get the LCD you like and then take it home and see if YOU have motion blur.... also make sure you adjust the settings, as I think this helps... If you don't like the LCD once you have it then you can always take it back. |

I currently own 3 sets. A Samsung LCD, A Sony LCD, and a Panny plasma. All have been pro calibrated. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that the Samsung has the best picture of the 3. It has the most natural skin tones, the best colors and the deepest blacks. I have been so impressed by the picture that the Sony is going back and being replaced by another Samsung. I have yet to see any motion blur on the set.
The sets are: Samsung LN52A850 Sony KDL-46XBR6 Panasonic TH-50PZ850U |

I have to call BS on Plasmas being superior to LCDs these days. Maybe if you want to compare a Kuros plasma to a low end Vizio, but the new Samsung 600 series and up look just as good as any high end Plasma I have seen. They all feature 4ms refresh rates and have black levels that are amazing. In fact, when the first 650s came out to the wild last spring it was the first time I was truly wowed by an LCD the same way I was wowed by the Kuros a year or two earlier.

Not with source material on the screen, no, not real contrast. Perhaps with 100% black signal being fed you may beat it, but that's not real world material anyway. |
