Question Did I commit a violation?

I bought a Toshiba TV...

Newegg was running a Columbus Day sale and the 37" REGZA LCD was just a shade under $500...I had been looking for a 37"-40" reasonable TV for the bedroom and this one was in my tolerance level cost-wise....

TOSHIBA REGZA 37" ThinLine 720p LCD HDTV w/ CineSpeed - 37CV510U

It has good color and looks OK aesthetically.

But being the evil competitor, did I commit a mortal sin?

Toshiba TV's are excellent. I've never known anyone to be dissatisfied with one.

Besides, I think we've all forgiven them for that whole "You Know What" fiasco a few years back.

Went 2 for 3 in Yankee Stadium earlier and the one loss and one win were blown saves by Lidge - he seems to have settled in a bit and and built his confidence

But A-Rod is going to be trouble...he finally showed up for the post season

Don't understand why HD-DVD is considered bad.Same storage capasity and with NO region coding.Think we lost out with blue ray,but that's the way the cookie crunbles sometimes

I'm glad i waited out that war. I was originally leaning towards HD-DVD because of my 360 but decided not to. Smart thinking on my part, I would have been pissed if i bought a bunch just to have the format die so quickly.

I actually bought a bunch AFTER the format died. HD movies for less than $5 a pop.... what's to lose?

I had considered that when I found a couple companies that make super drives that play both formats.

The only good thing was the region coding. HD-DVD was the first HD format I got to see, and I was blown away, but at this point anyone arguing for HD-DVD is just trolling or a blind fanboy. Sony and Disney have honestly done an amazing job getting BD into mainstream much quicker than DVD was.

As far as Toshiba sets... every time I see one in a store, it sticks out to me. Seems to have a great picture. As long as you're happy with the set, that's all that matters.

I've owned two Toshiba CRT tvs for a few years and absolutely love them...one is a 1080i HDTV and the picture is fantastic. I think they make a top-end display.

If I'm ever in the market for LCD, Toshiba will be my first look. I won't buy Samsung, and Sony is a bit pricey (along with some annoying company practices themselves...enough with the proprietary memory...get on board with SD for Christsake).

My first HDTV was a 37" Toshiba 720p LCD (37HL95 I believe)
I never gave me any issues, and the PQ was quiet good!

I had a Toshiba CRT for over 10 years and it was a great set with fantastic picture quality.

That said, you could have gotten a 42 inch Panasonic TC-42X1 plasma for $599.

Fine... I'll bite (though I'd rather just watch, like Blu-runner)

1) I hope you're joking.

2) You are incorrect.

3) If you're not sure why - look up both technologies' storage capacity (google or Wiki) and go to the Penalty Box and feel shame.

As for Evil... well it's water under the bridge for the most part, but some after effects of the war still linger - such as inferior transfers being ported from HD-DVD directly to Blu, when the final product could have been better. (This is a direct result of HD-DVD having less storage capacity *hint, hint* and not being able to hold higher video and audio encodes, and include Extras. Some movies on H-DuD have been put on Blu without any improvements, even though Blu could have allowed more/better content)

Cheers,

Doc

(PS, My Sarcas-mo-tron is in the shop, so if you're just whistling Dixie, skip it)

I went the opposite way. I bought an HD DVD player, and over 20 HDDVD movies because I KNEW HD DVD was dying and I was paying next to nothing for everything. Ended up with a decent player and over 20 hddvds for less than half the price of blueray player alone at the time. Sure I can't buy new HD DVDs, but the ones I have look and play fantastic. I never would have this many HD movies if I had to buy all of them in BR.

Have that one in the living room - it was too big for the bedroom

But after watching my Sammy A750 in the basement, nothing looks as good (but I think the Tosh looks better than the Panny)
