So a buddy of mine brought over a disc with THx and DTS "test" sounds. To say the least i was dissapointed by what happened next.
He selected the "jungle" scene, in which a helicopter flys around you, from right-back-left and then finishes in the front. Unfortunately, my denon avr-1708 doesn't allow HDMI audio. So the helicopter just hovered in the front for 30 seconds. Next, we went back to his place, and listened to it on his system. MILES apart...and i feel there is nothing i can do. From what i can gather, there is no way i can get "true" sound from my Ps3 to my Denon receiver. That poor helicopter is going to stay in the front of the room, and never get to see the back of my room. I got the blues...and i wonder what i've been missing for the past 6 months since i've setup my denon system. Now i'm looking for a new reciever that allow this helicopter to roam around like it should, without grabbing my wallet as it passes by. Help out this obviously sad and confused man if you can. Point me in the direction of a 7.1 system that can put a smile back on my face. |

Receiver is the only thing i need. Got everything else needed.
Nice speakers, ps3 for blu-ray/gaming, and a great tv. |

$400 or less would be optimal.
Wife wasn't happy with the Denon purchase, gunna have to be careful on the price tag for "another" receiver. |

I used my PS3 with a cheap JVC HTIB that was nearly five years old with optical and had sound a plenty. Last edited by Dase; 10-23-2009 at 12:05 AM. |

When I used the optical connection from my PS3 it would only do 2.1. This was with a Denon 987.
Set the PS3 to linear PCM and it will send 5.1 sound over HDMI to your receiver and then the front of your receiver should light up that it is receiving 5.1 also and putting out 5.1 |

When you add the digital optical cable from the PS3 to your receiver, be sure to adjust your audio settings in the PS3's menu settings. Your PS3 will not switch over automatically. Once you adjust everything, your sound should improve dramatically. Re-run the test, and you should feel better about your receiver. |
