Good day,
Question about decoding 7.1. I watched Hellboy 2 last night, DTS-HD 7.1. I have a 7.1 set-up. I'm bitstreaming the audio to my receiver ex Panasonic BD30. On my receiver display, the "S" is not illuminated. How do I know for sure that I'm decoding 7.1 audio on my receiver. I know that I'm decoding the audio by hearing the sound ex the back surrounds. Below is what stated in the manual about 7.1 with only a 5.1. Manual When this unit is decoding a Dolby True HD signal, the status of the input signal is displayed, depending on the number of speaker channels being used. The “S” indicator is not illuminated when a 7.1- channel signal is input to a 5.1-channel speaker system with L, C, R, SL, SR, and SW. Any input would be good. Thanks |

hmmnnn im not really sure. sorry. im looking into the receiver myself.... i would assume that if you can hear sound out of all speakers, and check to see that the blu player is definately playing 7.1 track, then it would be good to go...

Ok... tried the Hellboy 2 in the PS3 set to PCM to my receiver. Comes up on the display on the receiver Multi-Ch 7.1 with the 'S' in the display. I tried the Panny DB30 again and sure enough the display on the receiver is DTS-HD MA without the 'S'. The is no other illumations on the display IE: Matrix etc. Not sure here. I'm still getting the audio out of the 7.1..... Any other ideas?

So I tried anoth 7.1 DTS-MA disk (Rambo)... Didn't change anything to my receiver or player. The Reveiver accepts the 'S' as the back surrounds, full 7.1audio.
Has anyone had issues with Hellboy 2 when bitstreaming????? Steve |

Hello,
I'm coming from an older, non-HDMI Marantz receiver and looking to upgrade for HDMI. The 8002 would be a direct upgrade to my older 8200 model from about 6 years ago. The newer 8002 is appearently an older model compared to their lower lines with less power. If the player does the up-conversion on standard def DVD and of course the Blu-ray playback(as well as handling 24fps playback), then isn't the receiver just acting as a pass-through? The 8002 seems to have the 1.3a spec and the more power I want. Also, since my main DVD player is a Marantz 8300 universal SACD/DVD-A/DVD player, I would still like to use the analog audio from that over to the new receiver and use HDMI for the Blu-ray player. I hope that's still do-able these days. |

When I started trying to decide what receiver I want to buy (I will be buying in about 3 weeks), I quickly narrowed the choices down to two brands: Marantz and Pioneer Elite. I ended up ruling out Marantz because nothing above the SR600X has been updated in a few years. If there were a current SR7003/7004 or SR8003/8004 they would have been in the running. However, I believe the SR8002 will do everything you want it to.

Yea, I'm a little concerned and rather surprised about the fact that Marantz doesn't have something like an 8003/8004 AVR. Their other amps in the 5000/6000 series are underpowered even for me in my little room. I'm also looking at Denon as they seem to offer a much wider and newer selection of AVR's.

I just bought and SR8002 this summer... took one home to try out for 30 days and ended up keeping it. No problems and very happy with it so far. It's got all I need and is missing some stuff(Pro Logic IIz, Audyssey Dynamic EQ, Dynamic Volume and Bluetooth technology) that newer models have but nothing important to me. I wanted something with good power that had two HDMI outs in case I ever hook up a PJ. This receiver has everything that you mentioned with the power you need but then but so do may others. If a newer 800X model comes out they would probably add whatever the X004 models have added so it depends if you need all that or not.

Yea, I'm looking at Denon too, which appears to have a greater, more updated range of AVR's at this date and time. The Denon 4310ci($2000) seems to be a nice unit. The Denon Link option(ver 4 now) it has also seems like a plus, but whether or not that's really effective at reducing jitter OR just a marketing ploy is something to look into. Anybody have experience with Denon Link? If I go the Denon route, I would probably also go with the DBP-4010UDCI(universal player which also has Denon Link v4). That would allow me to use a one player solution for DVD/Blu-ray/SACD/DVD-A.
Actually, in another option, I could keep my older 7.1/non-HDMI Marantz AVR and if I'm not mistaken, simply buy a new Blu-ray universal player like the upcoming Marantz UD-8004 OR the above mentioned Denon universal player and simply have them decode the audio and send it out via 7.1 analog to my old receiver, while sending the video via the players HDMI directly to the screen. I currently have a Marantz 8002 and having handshake issues with both picture and audio. I've spoken to both Marantz and Sony about this. It's when, in bitstream only, I ffwd or rwd I loose both picture and audio for a second or two then it comes back. I reset the PS3 to default, tried 2 different HDMIs, different HDMI inputs, 2 PS3 slims but I can't try another Marantz unfortunately. I know Pioneer AVR are reported to have problems as well. I've also got the controller issues to boot as well but that's another one to look.
Let me know if the links work. http://s837.photobucket.com/albums/z...t=MVI_4587.flv http://s837.photobucket.com/albums/z...t=MVI_4592.flv Thanks Steve |

I have a 6004, and remember reading something about losing pic when FFWDing in my manual. Think it might have just been for Upconverting, not BDs. I will go look an get back to you. My 'fat' PS3 won't bitstream HD, I'm using LPCM or audio, so I never saw the problem before.
I'll get back to you. When I was looking for the 6003 the guy told me there were handshake problems with Panasonic and some others. So he recommended I spend more and get the 6004. |

When I PCM, all is fine. The reason I went with the slim was to bitstream.
