Default Quality Computer Speakers for an LCD TV?

I just recently returned a HTiB system because I wasn't satisified with the sound. I have no room for big bookshelf speakers on my TV stand. I'm looking for something like the size of Creative's T20 Series 2 computer speakers. However I want a subwoofer and a remote to control volume. The speakers must be 2-way speakers and want something with a frequency range of 35 HZ-22 KHz or something near that range. I only need 2.1 sound. I'm willing to spend around $450.

I wouldn't spend $450 on "computer speakers". I would spend that money on a two channel setup.

What about this combination then? I won't be able to have a subwoofer if I go with these speakers because I will need room for speaker stands for these speakers since my TV stand isn't wide enough to accomodate these speakers and my TV at the same time. I would be spending a little over $200 plus the cost of a pair of speaker stands for these speakers if I went for this combination.

This is one of the few systems that will fit your needs (I doubt that you will find one that goes down to a true 32hz bass range though). Take a look at these from Swan http://www.theaudioinsider.com/produ...products_id/89 Your size requirements keep me from recommending other products aside from the Klipsch promedia series. Those are really your only outs. You can also try the acclaimed Audioengine speakers - but I think they are a little too big for you. The Swans fit your size requirements. However - it lacks a remote.

What if they were B&W computer speakers? Check out the B&W MM-1 computer speakers. They are designed by the same team that developed the B&W Zeppelin iPod dock and 800 Series speakers. Price not released yet, but they should be on sale early 2010.

The Pro Media speakers are VERY nice. I had a set for years. Finally had one of the drivers get destroyed by being knocked off my desk one too many times by my cat. This won't help your situation... but soon they are releasing a wireless set of the Pro Medias. You just plug the USB transmitter into the PC. The sub of course still needs a power outlet, and the speakers still need to be wired to the sub... but this would be great for laptop users.

Oh, I'm familiar with the pro-media series - (I do recommend them and the Swans - everything else is too big for the OP).

I have the Promedia's but if I were going to be looking at the speakers, I'd get the Swan's hands down. They are likely much better speakers anyways. That is a really good deal for that Swan set though.

I recommended the swans to my friend awhile back and he got them so Ive had a chance to listen to them quite a bit. They are very nice looking, the white paint is almost car like quality with metallic flakes and clear coat - NICE. The mid woofer box must be placed on the table near the listening position or else low frequencies get drowned out. Highs are a little on the harsh side but overall a VERY good deal for the money. Anyone looking for cheap computer speakers must look into these.

My point though while they are good, they are more suited for nearfield listening (computer desk) than a home theater application... plus I thought he needed a remote. If a remote is not needed a better sound quality choice would be the audioengine A2...AMAZING little speakers (got my sister to get them). They can FILL a room!

But still my first choice and recommendation (if you can) is get bookshelf stands for the PSB Alpha B1s so you wont have to sacrifice any sound quality for space concerns.

First go with a real 2.0 or 2.1 set up (PSB). If you must, go with the audioengines over the swans.

Also if you can stretch a bit, check out this package!!

I would recommend the Audioengine's over those Swans also - however - I looked at the Creative T-20's that the OP ref'd and they are pretty small. The Audioengine speakers are about the size of a regular bookshelf speaker. I would have recommened thoses, larger Swans, or a setup like the one you recommended but I wonder how important are the size limitations for the OP. If he can swing it - your offering is grand!

True, the Audioengine A5 is the size of a regular bookshelf speaker. The A2 however is TINY! Takes up less real estate and sound better than the swans. Incredible sound from 2.75 inch kevlar woofers and silk tweeters, they blew me away.

But to the OP, my recommendations

1) HSU Performance 1 package
2) PSB Alpha B1 and a $200 receiver (Harmon Kardon 3390 (2 ch) or Denon 1609 (5.1))
3) Audioengine A2
4) Swan M10

Okay, today I bought the Yamaha RX-V465 receiver. I also ordered the Yamaha SP1800 5.1 speaker system for $99 with free shipping and it comes with a subwoofer. I won't be using the 2 rear surround speakers that come with the package though. I returned some Polk TSi100 speakers because it looks ugly in on my TV cabinet right next to my 26 inch LCD TV and almost half of the speaker goes over the edge of my cabinet. Maybe I'll sell the 2 rear speakers I won't be using that come with the speaker system I just ordered.

Do you have pictures of your setup - maybe I can find some speakers in your range that will be better than the Yamaha's (you basiclly traded one HTIB speaker system for another). Your speaker is the final decision maker in sound. Did you look at the PSB's that where recommended?
