Default PS3 - Best settings for DVD Playback? Scrap the DVD Player?

Hi folks. Right now I currently have a DVD player and PS3 for viewing movies. I use my ps3 for blus and my DVD player for DVDs. Obviously. My question is whether or not the PS3 can upscale better than my DVD player. My DVD player is a Sony DVP-NS75H. It says it does upscaling but I'm wondering if the PS3 is better at it. I ask because I had to watch a DVD down here on my main setup the other night for the first time in awhile and was dissapionted and wondered if the PS3 would technically do a better job.

Secondly if I use the PS3 for DVDs, are there some settings I should change? I notice in particular there is a BD/DVD upscaler setting with different settings available. I DO NOT want any formatting changes done when I play blus however. I just want that the way it is. Looking for info about all this. Thanks.

The best test would be to compare the images of the two and decide for yourself. I know the DVP-NS75H only upscales to a max of 1080i, while the PS3 will upscale to 1080p. It really depends on the quality of the scaler in the DVD player, and also how well your TV handles interlaced (1080I) images.

The PS3 isn't the best upscaler on the market, but it does a pretty darn good job. Personally, I use the PS3 to play Blu-rays and DVDs.

Also, in the PS3 menus, the DVD upscaling settings are separate from Blu-ray video settings. Adjusting your PS3's scaling of DVDs will not impact your BD playback at all. No worries.

Yeah I'm going to compare a DVD on both. I think the only settings that I remember were things that said "BD/DVD? before the setting name. If you know the exact DVD only settings and could pass them along I'd appreciate it. Thanks for the response.
