Angry Units sold in Italy alarming!! What's the situation in your nations?

On the new number of a note reviewed Italian of the area sound/video come published the results of an interesting round table between some operating of the area and varied representatives of the industries of hardware and of the majors home-video.
The data of the sale of the supports HD: in the first week of June, the title much more sold results to be the BR of Casino Royale with it of 177, It follows, to large distance, Vertical Limit with 75 pieces, I repeat, in all Italy ...
The disinformation (or better, the entire scarcity of information) on the high definition is spread in widespread manner not only between "the mass", but even between the employees to the sale, at least to judge from the scarcity of demo and from the often awful (but perhaps has been better to say nonexistent) regulations of TV and sources.
It risks really of to make "to extinguish" the high definition in Italy !!! I cannot believe us!

In your countries ????

I just think you Italians have a different culture and maybe not so interested in HD discs.

United States / United Kingdom are! (or is into it as can be!)

Yes, the amount of HD discs sold is fairly poor in comparaison to the total market. We are at the very beginning. Some retailers don't even know about HD technology. Many give inaccurate descriptions and comparisons. If the sellers don't know then the buyers will not know either.

Wait for a year and then analyze the sales is my advice.

Edit: ....and I completely disagree with BluFox. The sales are very small in comparison to the total market.

Thanks for your comments!
But unfortunately the mine personal opinion of my country is absolutely negative. In Italy we are always back of 100 years respect to the USA or to the England, our culture is "pizza, mafia, and works little"!!!
I am really tired of this everyday life in native my country but unfortunately is the raw reality. The word "progress" does not mean nothing in Italy, I envy yourselves you Americans and English!
you excuse my outlet
I hope a day, after to be worker graduated to be able myself in USA or England!

7eVEn, you should come over as an exchange student or for the summer.

America is great but we have our problems. Don't think what you see in movies is real. Even our reality shows aren't real.

Look into getting an Amtrak pass and travel around. I'm sure there is some corner of the US you will like and some you don't. Oh and don't forget about Canada either.

BluFox,
He was saying how Italy is not selling many Blu Ray movies.
They sold:
Casino Royale 177 discs.
Vertical Limit with 75 discs.
There are no demos in stores. He's worried all HD will die in Italy.

Certainty I know to distinguish the reality from the pretence of the American film but the thing that get angry is me the typical decline of the Italian mentality it is an ancient way to think and not productive. I believe that not enough alone our culture, our kitchen, our sea and sun, ecc... but is necessary also to ripen in the technological progress!!!! but in Italy is nonexistent the technological progress with this way to think will will remain sour for always!!!!! we are in 2007 not in 1493!!!!

@ What it is Amtrak a train?

Yeah, I got what he was trying to say.

And what I was saying that there are MORE people in the US or the UK that adopt new technology. Not that it really matters, since he can just import if things get bad.

I was in Italy last month and went looking for Blu-ray, but I couldn't find *one* single store that sold them (nor HD DVD, for that matter).

I don't know the CE numbers for Italy, but HDTVs are definitely sold in stores, and sales of PS3s seemed to be more or less in line with those of other European countries.

It's very likely that the Italian distributors decided to "skip" Blu-ray for the time being in order to launch it more prominently next Fall.

Italy is very subject to seasonality, and it would be pointless to introduce new products between June and August -- unless you can bring them to be beach, that is.

As for France, the situation is pretty much similar to the UK.

Sales are moderate - even encouraging - but both publishers and retailers know that the Blu-ray campaigns and offers will be more aggressive in the Fall.

France is probably one of the biggest HD DVD strongholds in Europe (because of StudioCanal), although the PS3 effect has given Blu-ray the market leadership.

Both formats are sold at store chains (like FNAC and Virgin) and the specialized POS, but their mass market presence is still minimal. It is believed that the retail presence will be much more aggressive in the fall, and the Blu-ray publishers are currently building their marketing campaigns and budgets. The situation should skew in favor of Blu-ray, because retailers are betting both on the PS3 and the names of the BD exclusive studios.

On the other hand, the PS3 is really screaming for a lineup of videogame hits, because Blu-ray alone hasn't got a film library that turns people in droves. Lair, Heavenly Sword and Assassin's Creed should be instrumental to generate sales -- and turn some of these people into Blu-ray fanatics.

Finally, with the exception of Studiocanal and a couple of others, nearly all the local distributors (non affiliated to a Hollywood Major, that is) have opted for a wait and see approach. All of them are making plans, but they're being more cautious in order to bet on the right horse, and to wait for a more meaningful market penetration.

The bottom line is that the wind is turning in favor of Blu-ray. But Toshiba won't certainly give up without a fight.
