Default Number of Units Sold

With the victory over HD-DVD at hand, is there a way we can start measuring Blu-rays success by giving the number of units sold instead of percentages? Ultimately, isn't this how the studios will measure the viability of the high-def business?

True. They need to have a site or add something to this site about how many but I will check out yahoo.com and search it. I let you know soon.

This is a fantastic concept for the simple reason that percentages don't mean jack squat. For example, it's great to hear that the week following WB's exclusivity announcement provided an 85%:15% software sales ratio... but, given the post holiday season retail sales trend, that could (theoretically) only be a percentage breakdown on 500 units sold for both formats together. That's why I don't rely too heavily on the Nielson numbers to dictate facts about the war. Leading up to X-mas unit sales could have been in the 100,000+ range.

Without unit figures, there is no way to understand the TRUE market share for each format.

As to the OP question, unit sales are not disclosed to the public unless it's a benchmark.
