Default laptop question

I just bought a dell inspiron 1545 and have been having problems with the battery keeping a charge for longer than an hour I was suggested to charge it for 12 hours straight before using just the battery is this true or could that overcharge it?

I had it on high performance but I bumped it down to power saver and only got an estimated 15 extra minutes

You can't overcharge it with the system in your laptop unless it's broken. My main battery doesn't last very long and I can tell you why. Here are four things that will eat batteries for breakfast.

1. Wireless Card
2. USB
3. Screen
4. Optical and or HDD

If you're using any one of those at full they will drain your battery pretty fast. Combine them and I get's a lot worse.

Doing a cursory search on google it looks like the battery life on the Inspiron 1545 is atrocious to begin with. Also do you know how many cells the battery has to begin with? If it's 4 cell, then 1-2 hours sounds about normal, if it's a 6 cell 3-4 hours sounds normal. If it's a 6 cell try calling Dell customer service and talking to them about it see if you can get a replacement.
