New Onkyo 807 & 707 - Blu-ray Forum

Hi all

Just found this on the onkyo UK site

The 707 and 807 look at first glance like they are a major improvement over the outgoing models - according to the specs even the 707 has burr brown Dacs

Onkyo 807

I about had a stroke when I saw 180W/channel!

Then I read only 1 channel driven at 6 ohms.

What, no front HDMI port on the 807?

Thought that was going to be a cool and useful feature. Plus only THX Select2 certification?

Onkyo has either taken there 800 series back a step, or their planning on launching another modle between the 807 and the 877, like they did between the 607 and the 707.

Was hoping to get one in Silver, but it doesn't look like it's going to be available the same time as Black.

Wonder what Best Buy will charge for these bad boys, now that they're going to carry Onkyo in their Magnolia centers.

Looks nice. I think I'll keep my 805 until it falls apart though. I do wish I had the extra HDMI inputs. I'm still looking for a nice HDMI switch.

Yep that's one of the reasons I'm looking too, the 3 HDMI ports on my 705 filled up fast. Plus with moving into a new house and the almost certain addition of a cable box (at least if I can work out a cheap deal), I'd like to have the extra zone set-up too.

hmmm. May have to sell the 705 and get an 807. 6 hdmi inputs and the other specs is nice.

my 806 is going NO WHERE

i always 'graze the field' but i have no desire to upgrade my receiver until
A) it breaks
B) a new lossless codec comes out that my receiver doesnt support

Where is the ac plug in the rear? On my 705 there is an ac plug so you can plug in things like a fan. I bought a pc fan with an ac plug on it, to put on top of the receiver to help with cooling.

I still haven't heard any receiver that utilizes the Audyssey DSX wide channel processing. The only other receiver that has it so far is the Denon 4310ci, so the onkyo being half the price is a nice change.

Well, the 706 and 806 don't. It appears the 707 and 807 will though.

The TX-NR807 is definitely an improvement over the TX-SR806. Earlier today I replaced the the TX-SR806 that was hooked up to one of the store's demo rooms with the TX-NR807. The unit is a little larger than the 806 with the front flip down door being non-spring loaded now, but the buttons behind the door are larger and easier to read the functions of each button, and the 807 weighs about 2 pounds more than the 806. For some reason Onkyo put an S-Video on the front for the 4 people out there that will use it. For custom installers the 807 can now do Zone 2 and Zone 3 out of the box with no additional amps needed (SL & SR can be assigned to Zone 3, SBL & SBR can be assigned to Zone 2, though this means that this becomes a 3 zone stereo receiver with HD video switching), and there are pre outs for Zone 2 & Zone 3 if you do choose to do 7.1 plus two extra zones. The Burr-Brown PCM1690 DAC's are an improvement on the Cirrus Logic DAC pack used on the 806. The power supply appears to be the same as the 806 even though the specs say the 807 has 5 more watts per channel. The remote is an improvement, now featuring 4 macros.

That's some good info you have there. Might be just about time to replace my old, crusty 606.

The new TX-NR1007 from Onkyo will be the 805 if you look closely at the specs. But it also cost a good bit more.

Considering street prices for Onkyos are always less than MSRP the new offering should be a cut above most of the offerings.

Looks good but I wonder what the actual RMS watts per channel is when running 5 channels, 7 channels or even 9. I'm not going to replace my 875 with a 707 but I have friends in the market for a receiver. Anyone know?

Does anyone know if they have lab results for the true power of the 707 running 5 channels, 7 channels or even 9 channels? I haven't found anything yet but maybe someone on here has.

Does anyone know if the 807 has pass thru on the HDMI array? Can I plug my sat receiver into the HDMI in and watch TV with the 807 turned off?
