Default What movie has the biggest upgrade in PQ from DVD to BD?

Just curious if you were going to show someone the advantages of Blu-ray, what movie would you show them flipping from the DVD to a BD?

I see the biggest difference in the older movies. Particularly in "The Shining" & "Halloween".

How The West Was Won. 1962. Not really a fair comparison to 35mm films, but sure shuts anyone who thinks older movies can't look good right up.

The Searchers with John Wayne. That was a HUGE upgrade.

Also, A Christmas Carol. Not a flawless presentation by any means, but the B&W was so crisp, there really isn't any comparison to the DVD.

Not really. The last Oz DVD that came out before the Blu-Ray looked damn good.

I think The Searchers too.

Not even close on either of those titles. The Blu-ray edition is far superior in every aspect. I know, since I own both editions. You must be joking right?

No, I was saying that The Searchers is a big upgrade in PQ.

As for Oz, you own the DVD from 2005? Because it's a 4k remaster and it's nearly flawless. Of course the BD is marvelous, but it's definitely not a gigantic upgrade in PQ like some other films.

The Thing was very noticable

I also agree, older movies remastered well make the largest differences.

I think the defining example though would be God Father trilogy.

Going from the initial dvd of Beetlejuice to the Blu was breathtaking. Hands down the most impressive visual upgrade I have seen to date.

The Wizard of Oz is pretty amazing, too.

I think the 8K Blade Runner is a great example. I am hesitant about buying a lot of the older movies but I did just get Patton and Bulitt, but I haven't watched them yet. It seems like a lot of studios aren't really putting much effort into the transfers and it is making me hesitant.

Don't be hesitant, that's why forums like this exist: do your research and buy with confidence.

I was particularly impressed with Fargo and Reservoir Dogs. They may be average compared to other blu-ray titles, but they are leaps and bounds above their DVD counterparts.

Friday the 13th had an amazing picture for the age of the film and being a low budget film.
