Should be a 50GB disk for the main feature and an extra 25GB disk for a majority of the extras. They may have seen this stated as there being 75GB of content and misunderstood it as being a single 75GB disk.

I am assuming that the movie will be in a bd 50 and the extras in a bd 25. Otherwise I dunno.

yeah, I wondered about that, though the prospect of 75GB dics has obvious appeal. I'd love to find the official release from Disney on the specs...

They're saying it's two disk too so perhaps they're just being lazy not describing the seperate disk sizes.

Exclamation 75GB Blu-ray Discs on the way from Disney?!?!?

From the bits today:

Quote:
First up today, Disney has officially announced the DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End on 12/4. The DVD will be a 2-disc set (SRP $34.99 - a single disc DVD will also be available for just $29.99) and the Blu-ray will also be a 2-disc set featuring the first use of 75GB discs (SRP $35.99). Disc One of the set will include the film itself (1080p AVC video, 7.1 48/24 uncompressed audio on the Blu-ray) along with a blooper reel (and the BD-Java Jolly Roger host on the Blu-ray). Disc Two will include 8 featurettes (Anatomy of a Scene: The Maelstrom, Keith & the Captain, Tale of the Multiple Jacks, Hoist the Colors, Inside the Brethren Court, The Pirate Code: Revealed, The World of Chow Yun Fat and The Pirate Maestro: The Music of Hans Zimmer), along with the 5-part Masters of Design documentary (the Blu-ray will also include the exclusive Enter the Maelstrom BD-Java interactive feature, and all the standard DVD content will be presented in high-definition).

I thought that the BD spec only allowed up to 50GB for movie-discs as the BD group got lazy and didn't get 100GB into the spec?

Uh, is Bill Hunt in error (ie, was the press release really referring to a 50GB + 25GB = 75GB for both discs combined) or is he on to something here?

FOLKS... THIS IS A BIG DEAL if it's really 75GB...

Please... Please.. can some insider confirm?

dave

Its a misunderstanding. It is two discs - one BD-50 and one BD-25.

Well, something is confused. Because weren't POTC 1 + 2 also this configuration?

How would World's End be a first?

Ok, let's ask another question then.

What would be required to modify the BD spec to include 75 and 100GB discs and get that working in existing players?

With Toshiba/Amir rallying the cause for 51GB HD DVD modified specifications, it would be a worthwhile question to ask for BD. Not to mention that BD SHOULD HAVE included up to 100GB in the spec from the start (another concession to ease the concerns of manufacturers???).

Actually, I doubt it would have meant much extra for the drives (they might be able to handle such a thing now). But, the whole replication equipment issue would need to be resolved.

I think that it would be cheaper to add extra discs, than produce >2 layer discs.

Do you see a need for >50GB for the feature?

An entire TV series on one disc.

That would be WONDERFUL.

Odd. It's a pretty big thing for Bill Hunt to stumble on.

It's 75GB in the press release, He's still catching up from VSDA and Comic-Con and it probably slipped through

So maybe the press release is in error? that would be logical. But it would be great to know for sure. Are there any insiders close to the source on this one who can say declaratively?

Look near the top, the first time it's mentioned it talks abouts about "75GB sets" not discs.

Yes...EXACTLY.

Ya'll need to read between the lines of what the writer of the article intended to mean. Whom ever wrote this is just some staff writer and probably is still listening to 8-track in his Gremlin.
