Default Why Everyone Will Own a Blu-ray Player (article link)

This is an interesting article to read. Swanni is predicting that some Consumer Electronics companies are going to completely stop making DVD players in about 18 months and only offer BLU-RAY players. OPPO is one company that no longer makes DVD players and only offers Blu-ray players, perhaps within 18 months some large consumer electronics manufactories might follow.

Swanni also mentions that maybe in 12-18 months some movies (most likely select new release titles) on BLU-RAY will be BLU-RAY exclusives with no DVD version released to encourage people to purchase Blu-ray players. Perhaps the first studio to try Blu-ray only releases might be Sony Pictures.

Quotes from TVPredictions.com

"Because I predict that in the next 18 months, some CE companies will stop making DVD players. That's right. And by the year 2013, many stores will only carry Blu-ray players; no DVD players at all."

"Additionally, many electronics companies will be pushing hard to get consumers to buy new 3-D Blu-ray players. That task will be easier if there are only Blu-ray players on the market."

"However, it won't be long -- perhaps in the next 12-18 months -- that the studios will begin releasing some movies only on Blu-ray to encourage consumers to switch formats."
