Oh, FFS......

so we can look forward to all the craptastic bad 80's 3-d movies like Jaws 3-D, Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone, Metalstorm and Amityville 3-D?

Pinch me.
I must be dreaming.

Direct to video 3D conversions of 2D movies may doom 3D.

I can understand rerendering CGI movies to 3D (like Toy Story and Toy Story 2) since this can yield excellent results on material which already exists in 3-D space, but converting regular movies to 3D is similar to colorizing B&W movies.

hmmmm.. with a line-up like that no wonder 3-D didn't take off back in the 80's...

Of course they would do this. Just another way for studios to try to double dip on titles.

Sony should forget about the gimmicks and just deliver a good BD version of Lawrence of Arabia, for starters.

Exactly. I see no good reason to go back and turn movies that were never meant to be in 3D into 3D.

The one interesting thing to me in that article was the idea of a 3D upgrade for Playstation 3. I'm not a big video game fan (I actually never even updated from PS2) but the idea of playing 3D video games is definitely the best thing I've heard out of all the recent 3D talk. I'd actually buy that.

I'm trying to find where in the article it said they would.
Five sentences, shouldn't be that hard to find, but...

For all we know "older movies" could refer to converting older polarized 3-D movies--
Yeah, I'm waiting for that restored "Kiss Me, Kate" (assuming Sony still owns classic-MGM), how 'bout you?

Words can't begin to explain how uninteresting this is to me. Studios are seeing $$$$ right now, so I get why they have such a hard-on for the 3-D right now. But I sure can't wait for the fad to pass.

EDIT: Here's the actual article, instead of a link to the article talking about the article.

Disney did this with A Nightmare Before Christmas. The results are amazing and it is not a CGI movie.

It'd be kind of cool if they were older 3D films. It'd be neat to see Dial M For Murder in a remastered 3D release without needing colored glasses.

You mean Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared Syn?!

That would be great to see... and if it did bring down the whole 3d revival, that would be great too
