Default Replacing my Boston Sub

Hey everyone,

I recently got a new receiver and I'm now itching to replace my subwoofer. I currently have a Boston Acoustics HPS-12HO which is a 12" 300 Watt RMS sub that has a frequency response of 25Hz-150Hz.

So far, I have my mind set on a Supercube. The question is, what option should I do?

a.) (One) Supercube Reference - 14" Sub with 2 14" Bass Radiators, 1800 Watts RMS, Freq Response: 11 Hz – 200 Hz

b.) (One) Supercube I - 10" Sub with 2 10" Bass Radiators, 1500 Watts RMS, Freq Response: 13 Hz – 200 Hz

c.) (Two) Supercube II - 8" Sub with 2 8" Bass Radiators, 1250 Watts RMS, Freq Response: 14 Hz – 200 Hz

d.) (Two) Supercube III - 7.5" Sub with 2 7.5" Bass Radiators, 650 Watts RMS, Freq Response: 16 Hz – 200 Hz

Please let me know what I should do! I plan to make up my mind by Friday. Thanks.

I can say from personal experience, don't. At each price point there are better subs for SPL or accuracy. I've heard the 10" model, and I wasn't impressed with the results at all.

This thread actually sums up what I have to say about the subject pretty well:

Not trying to rain on your parade, but I'd rather save you the money if possible.

Thanks a lot for the advice. But in terms of pricing, I am getting a large % off. Let's just say that it's more than 60 and less than 75

I'd normally suggest 2 subs when possible, but I'd just try the 14"er in the hopes it doesn't sound as bad as the 10's.

BTW, I would like to point out I have no problems with deftech. I loved the surrounds I had from them. I just think their subs are sub par. (please don't blame me, it had to be done, lol)

How much are you going to be spending? If it is in the neighborhood of $350 Then I suggest that you look at the eD, I have heard the supercubes and while they are nice subs, IMO, they are not quite as good as the eD that I have.

I'm not sure about harmonic distortion, but SPL and low extension wise the supercube would be better then a 350$ ed in my opinion.

I have heard only the supercub II and III, but neither of them really impressed me. I heard them in a closed audition room and they got loud and put out bass, but they didn't impress me to the degree that the Hsu VTF-2.3 and VTF-3.1 did, and the eD is right there with the VTF-2.3, Personally, the A2-300 can and does compete with other more expensive subs. I am not saying its the best sub out there and I have yet to hear the 14" reference sub, so just from experience I didn't find the others great. Personally when I go to BB they have a supercube and a Dynamo, and I like the Dynamo better. The Dynamo is a bit quicker for music, but not as good for HT as the eD.
