Default Onkyo 606 No video through HDMI, Audio is there though.

Hello,

Just hooked up my first Receiver after having to wait 4 months for my 5.1 set.

I tried my PS3 and I hear the audio, but no video at all just snow. I replugged the HDMI cable in and 1 time it worked and I had video for a few minutes. But when I switched to a different HDMI source and back to this one again, video was gone again.

I really have no idea what the problem here is. I hope someone here does.

Sound like maybe a handshake issue and is common when using HDMI. Try switching to the correct input with the PS3 turned off first then turn it on and see what happens. If that doesn't work try turning on the PS3 on first then turn to the correct input.

I hope this isn't your issue, but it is common with this receiver and just happened to a friend of mine.

No luck unfortunately. Jumps to the "snow" right away, instead of the PS3 screen

It does sound an awful lot like what I am experiencing . Damn, I was hoping I was just doing something wrong. Luckily the warranty is still there, but thats going to take a while to get it repaired.

Weird...
As of late my 606 has been doing the same thing. I will turn on the Wii and get audio, but no video. The PS3 won't even come up on the screen! I have to turn on and off the Wii/PS3 and the receiver a bunch of times before it comes on.
No sequential order seems to work every time.
I figured maybe it was the inputs on the receiver; but that didn't seem to work
Maybe the cords (HDMI for the PS3 and composite for the Wii), but not that either.
It is an anomaly how much you spend on equipment that doesn't seem to work right

Did you just buy it or have you had it for 4 months?

I had it for 4 months but had no speakers yet, so I didnt use it yet. I should have probably tested it earlier, pretty stupid. But cant help that anymore now.
So far I havent had any fun with it yet.

Something weird is that when I try to run my Xbox360, which is also HDMI. It runs fine, so far anyway.

Also it is not the Onkyo 606, but the 707. Dont even ask how I got mixed up with that :/.

Now I got my BDP-S360 working by using the HDMI cable from my Xbox360.
How likely is it that the stuff isnt working properly because of the quality of these cables, they were REALLY cheap.

I must add however that the PS3,BDP-S360 were running fine on these cheap cables without the receiver between them. Is it possible that the quality of the cable was good enough for the connection between the TV but not between the receiver and the Onkyo?

I will try to borrow a higher quality cable later today, and I hope that it will be different.

With HDMI it either works or it doesn't. It has nothing to do with quality of the cable. In other words a $3 cable will work just as good as a $100 cable. Could be you have a bad cable.

Hmm alright. I was hoping it would be the cable, that would be an easy fix. Right now I dont have a clue where to even look at.

Example: when I start the receiver I can pretty much start my blu-ray player or PS3 and they will boot up.

When I eject the disc-tray on the blu-ray player, the little led screen on the player says LOADING, and my tv throws me out and starts to show snow, and refresh the screen every few seconds trying to "kick" back to the player or something, but it never works.

As for the PS3, it kicks me out when I attempt to run a game/BD.

Confused

Just switch to a different input and then switch back. While my 805 doesn't do this often, it will sometimes just display a black screen.

HDMI handshaking is a mess and I wish HDCP was never forced down our throats.

But it does it continously so I wont be able to finish a movie this way.

I did some more research and apparently the combination of a Panasonic G10 with a Onkyo receiver isnt a good one. I am not sure if my problem is what everyone complains about, but it would appear I am not the only one having issues.
