The house we just moved into has a 5.1 surround sound set-up already built in the family room from the previous owners. I already have the basement set up as the main home theater viewing area. I figured I might as well go ahead and get a receiver to run the family room. I found the Yamaha HTR-6240 aka the RX-V465 for around 230.00. Can anyone recommend an alternative in that price range? It's not really a big deal I just figured since the speakers were already there I might as well use them.
Also I will be taking my sub from the basement, a Sony entry level sub to run upstairs. Can anyone also recommend a good sub in the 200-250 range? |

Onkyo TX-SR606 for only $279.99 at Accessories4less. ...Much better that those Yamahas.
...And easily worth the extra $50 over those. As for the sub, certainly not a Sony one. Check at Audiogon for solid brands; Velodyne, Paradigm, SVS, HSU, PSB... Try to aim a little higher with your budget on the sub ($300-350 perhaps). Last edited by LordoftheRings; 04-06-2010 at 06:09 AM. Reason: ... |

the new pioneer 520 is $229, supposedly being released sometime this month, you can pre-order at amazon or JR. thats about the best you can do brand new in that price range IMO, i think people generally regard pioneer av receivers better than yamaha

For a sub in the price range your looking at the Premier Acoustics PA-120 is the best you will find.
For a receiver, in that price range they are all about the same, only difference may be the sound, so look at Sony 510 or 700/710, Pioneer 520, Yamaha 465 and Onkyo 507, I prefer the Sony and Yamaha Sounds over the other 2, but you should listen to them yourself. |
