Cool Stretch (D. Joe Carnahan. Patrick Wilson & Chris Pine go on a ride from hell)

FIRST LOOK AT JOE CARNAHAN'S STRETCH

Quote:

We should all be excited about a new Joe Carnahan movie regardless of what it is, but Stretch looks like something I’d want to see no matter who directed it. The film follows a down on his luck chauffeur played by Patrick Wilson who chauffeurs a crazy looking billionaire played by Chris Pine. The chauffeur wants to nab the billionaire’s book of criminal contacts. The billionaire wants the chauffeur to help him do some nefarious shit. Things probably don’t go well for either of them.

Stretch cost under $5 million to make but was still dropped from Universal’s slate months before it was supposed to hit theaters. Instead it will come out digitally under Jason Blum’s new BH Tilt sometime in October.

That’s exciting news. Not just because it’s a Joe Carnahan film, and not just because it has a cool-sounding plot, but also because of these photos Stretch’s twitter account sent out today (check out Chris Pine!):

I keep on waiting when Joe Carhahan regains his Narc-form, everything else he does just doesn't seem good enough in comparison with Narc.

While they very well could be right, that's just one person's opinion. Maybe I'll have wished I followed their advice, but that's beside the point.

Well Universal dropped distribution the day after the guys screening, so it sort of suggests there were more than just him not pleased with it.

I dunno though, the trailer doesn't like bad, and when I first found out about the premise I was quite interested, but the trailers hint that it's closer to Smokin' Aces than Carnahan's other work, and Smokin' Aces really pissed me off.

I watched this last night and really enjoyed it. It's definitely closer to Carnahan's "fun" movies like Smokin' Aces and A-Team, as opposed to his more serious stuff like Narc and The Grey. But that's okay with me because I love those first two, and I thought Narc was just okay and mostly hated The Grey.

I'm not surprised it's not getting a theatrical release though, as it doesn't feel like a "major" motion picture. But it's a fun ride, and worth a watch.

Must be a Wal-mart exclusive. I wonder if the other straight-to-VOD Jason Blum projects The Town That Dreaded Sundown and Mockingbird will also be DVD only.

I think there's 4 Blum produced movies coming out next week, all DVD only and Walmart exclusives:

Stretch
NSFW
Mercy
Mockingbird

I agree with the film being too underrated. Just watched Stretch and thought it was an extremely fun ride from start to finish.

Looking forward to watching this and NSFW. Blumhouse really seem to be on a role these days (although not all their movies are that great)
