Default Recommendation?

Hey guys.

I'm looking for recommendations on a Blu-ray player. I've done a bit of research myself but hope that you guys could help me out even more.

Personally, I'd like Wi-Fi connectivity to update firmware easily (Is this the easiest way to do this? Is this even important in a Blu-ray player?)
I'd also of course like good picture and sound quality.

Price is relatively no problem, although less is always greater.

Currently I own a Sony BD-P300 and I dislike it. New Blu-ray discs I buy do not play the feature, and I try to update firmware to see if that would solve anything, but after downloading the update to a disc, the Blu-ray player will not upload anything. It says "Disc cannot be played."

I'm looking to upgrade altogether.
Thank you guys.

After having 2 different players in the last 2 1/2 years I got tired of dealing with firmware issues and went with the PS3. I don't play games at all but the PS3 is is on my wireless network and automatically updates the firmware. I have never seen a single complaint of movies not playing on the PS3 when the firmware is current. At $299 plus $24 for the remote it is not the cheapest player on the market but I'm happy with the peace of mind of knowing that any blu I bring home will play.

A PS3 can update itself once connected wi-fi. Almost NO load times. Never had an issue watching any movie, also a ton of info on How-to stuff on various threads.

I have three different players the PS3 60 and 40 gig, Panasonic DMP-BD-80 and an OPPO BD-83...of the three the OPPO is the better of the bunch with the PS-3 next then the BD-80. The BD-80 is last because of load times. WI-FI is good but a thumb drive update only takes a couple extra minutes so no big deal....just my two cents.....

I recently upgraded to the Oppo BD-83 and can recommend it with almost no reservations. It does not have wi-fi, but firmware updates (and yes, they are important for all players) are still very easy with a USB flash drive. It is a beautiful machine.

If you see yourself getting heavily into BD-live and stuff though, I would get one with wifi.

I have a PS3, a Sony S550 und as of today an OPPO BDP-80.

The PS3 works great for Blu-rays and it's fast. But i have never used it to play Blu-rays since i got the S550, the S550 has slightly better pq on my system. It's a wee bit slower, especially with JAVA menus and such.

I've never had a problem playing any BDs with the S550, even though there weren't many firmware updates since i bought it about a year ago. I think there were only two, which i burned to CDs.

The OPPO will be region free with a mod (that's why i bought it) and might have better DVD playback (not too important though and the reason why i didn't go for the BDP83). The S550 will move on to my parents place, they are about to buy their first 1080p HDTV soon.

Go for an LG BD570 or the 590. Built it wireless N and has loads of features. The OPPO looks like a great player but for the price, I would expect more than just disc playback. Has no wireless or any streaming features on either models. For that price, I would want some extras like netflix etc. I personally think the OPPO players are way overpriced.

You can do the Panasonic BDP-85 or the LG-570 or 590 all 3 have Wi-Fi.

+1...It has WiFi, internal decoding of DD and DTS lossless, a remote with an EJECT button and the load speeds are supposed to rival the PS3.
