I got a bluray player on black friday at Walmart. I got the $78 Magnavox. The problem is that it doesn't have optical audio. It has digital coaxial and I was wondering if I can still do 5.1 with digital coaxial? Thanks.

Well I don't know what receiver or speakers you have, which play just as big a role in the sound quality as how the audio signal is encoded, so I don't know how "decent" it will sound. It'll probably sound fine for a bed room setup, and with such an "inexpensive" system you probably wouldn't really benefit from having lossless audio anyway. So if it sounds good to you then it is good.

The quality of multi-channel DD and DTS through Digital Coaxial cable is as good as Optical cable. Furthermore, DD and DTS are encoded at a higher bit rate on Blu-ray discs and you will get better quality sound than DVD's.
