Default Need help buying a 5.1 on budget

As the title states - I need help building a 5.1 system. I currently have a Onkyo 606. I had it hooked up to a 5.1 Cerwin Vega setup that stayed at the townhouse (they were in the wall). So I am finally settled in and now am in need to get my 5.1 back up and running. I am not sure how much I can really spend so a few options won't hurt (under $1000). I was looking at this set in amazon

http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-SKSHT750...9885325&sr=1-5

I realize speakers in a box is not the best option but would it be better to start off with a 3.1 system and eventually add the rears? I know I will not be getting a new receiver anytime soon so I dont want to get speakers that need anything more out of the receiver than what a 606 can give. Thanks for any suggestions.

Try to go out and listen to as many speakers as you can within your budget and let your ears decide for you. Once you know what sound you like, the decision will be much easier and you will be happier in the long run.

Thumbs up HT setup

Here is an excellent option for you. You can set it up as either a 5.1 or 7.1 system -----> http://www.accessories4less.com/make...e-Black/1.html .

Another option would be to buy speakers in groups. Fronts, then center, then surrounds.

I'm not sure if your total budget will be $1000 forever, but it may be a better decision in the long run.

Just a thought.

I believe Vanns has the Klipsch Synergy B-3 speakers for $179 shipped/pair. You could get 2 pairs of those and add a Synergy C-1 for $79 shipped. Then get an ED A2-300. You'd have a nice sounding system for like $850. That is if you like the Klipsch sound.

no one here ever seems to be too much enthused about onkyo speakers but there are plenty of other great brands that people are enthusastic about on these boards, at 1,000 you have a lot of great options

Here are a few systems that are definetly worth considering.

1) http://www.sounddistributors.com/buy...at_name=Search $899

2) Energy CF-30s, CC-10 and PA-120 sub, for a 3.1 system you can add surrounds later
Most dealers will give you a 20% discount, so the speakers should be about $720 and the sub is $230. You can see the speakers on their site here and look up local dealers by clicking on where to buy
http://www.energy-speakers.com/na-en...tower-speaker/

3) PSB Image series speakers, Look at http://www.saturdayaudio.com for the Image sale, you can get the B25s, B15s for surrounds and the C60 center, and a Premier Acoustic PA-120 Sub, it will cost you $1036

Those would be my thoughts.
