Default The backup plan

Hey fellas

Unfortunately my Denon went on a minor fritz and is having some HDMI issues so I had to take it in to an authorized service center. I was a bit bummed by this, but not as bummed as I was when after I had filled out all the paperwork and turned it over, the guy told me they had a 4 week backlog (not just AVR's but TV's, players, etc.). .

Well I made it about a week before I started going completely crazy. I went to Vegas for a weekend and that helped until the room they gave me was #4310 (the model # of my AVR, no I am not joking lol). So I began browsing to the local classifieds and found a backup for a good price.

I am now a owner of a Pioneer Elite VSX-45tx. No HDMI, but I didn't want to go out and spend a ton on something I only plan to use for a month or so. Got it setup yesterday, sound via optical so no HD sound formats, but at least I am back in business . I plan to sell it to a good home after mine is back.

My wife thinks me a crazy person and even uttered the dreaded "you would have been fine without for a month" . Am I crazy? Has anyone else ever done something similar? Anyone have backups? Lol, just hoping I am not alone, and sharing my experience .

dase,

Congratualtions and welcome to the club. I am willing to write a letter to your wife certifying that you are crazy. Your certificate of membership to the Craziness Hall of Fame is enclosed.

Well in a way, my bedroom with all of the stuff was kinda really like a back-up at the time I first did it.

You are not crazy. The crazy thing would have been listening to TV speakers for the whole month.

I hate to say it, but I agree with you wife. If you had got something that allowed HDMI uncompressed than yes you would be right. But optical is unacceptable and you could of just used your t.v. speakers. But hey
you only live once and it's your money bro.

Haha thanks BD!

Sith, I just couldn't take the tv speakers man. Plus I got the backup on the cheap.

JJ, Crazy, Chad, and Hamp, thanks it's good to know that a fella is not alone haha.

On the plus side I do like the Elite a bunch, even with just optical sound .

Thought I would post a follow up. So I finally got my Denon back from an authorized service center and.... there was nothing wrong with it. At first I was a little upset with the service tech, but then we went through their process together and there really wasn't anything wrong with it in their shop.

So I brought it home and did some more troubleshooting of my own and found the issue. Whenever I have a monoprice HDMI cable on one of the sources, or from the receiver to the TV things do not work right. Picture drop outs, audio drop outs, flicker, or nothing at all.

I have two different kinds of monoprice cables and 3 different lengths to try out and none of them work. Wierd because they worked fine before I swapped out my LCD for a plasma. Some sort of handshake that is different between the sets.

So I ordered some cables from blue jeans and put them in and it works fine. It also works fine with the cable from my OPPO in the loop. So for now I am just using my new cables and being satisfied.

This is in no way a post to bash monoprice or their products, I have had success with all of their products up until now. I just wanted people to know of my experience to hopefully save some time if they are having similar issues. Check your cables!

It's already sold. It took two days and it was gone. Now I'm thinking I should have kept it lol. I did like it. I would love to play around with one of the new elites like yours , they sure are nice.
