Default Backup Help

The lawyer I work for wants me to pick out an external hard drive so I can back his computer up in case it crashes. I'm probably going to get one of the MyBook ones. Does it come with everything I need to do a full-system backup? He wants me to backup his work computer and restore that backup on his home computer so they're exactly the same.

Do I need any extra software to do this?

yes

you probably want some kind of ghosting software

A external drive is going to be drag and drop and will not automatically update

Your lawyer buddy is better off subscribing to something like carbonite.com - that does full back-ups and you don't need to put it on a home PC

I like the LaCie drives.

This is also a very good option. We do this at work for our sensitive data. We use a company called Divinsa for our off-site backups.
