Okay, I am almost positive it isn't anything to do with blu-ray, but it might be so I won't rule it out.
I have a ps3, but my tv is a few years old and it only has a DVI input, it is 1080i. Since the ps3's hd out is hdmi, i bought a HDMI to DVI cord. I bought 300 on blu-ray, and I have noticed ALOT of noise on solid colours such as bright blues and greys, and also skin colours/ oranges. Does anyone know what could be causing this? it is pretty distracting for me because I am always trying to prove blu-ray to everyone, but this static noise digital mosquito stuff makes all the great scenes in HD look less great. |

If you mean the film grain, its supposed to be there
![]() Also film naturally has grain. The grains are what compose the picture. |

I don't think grains could be interpreted as mosquito noise. Noise is a lot more noticeable and distracting than grain. You don't have 1080p, do you?
Try playing at 1080i or 720P and see if that changes it. Does your tv have a setting for filtering noise? Check the manual. Don't try play everything in the vivid mode either. Not everything is meant to look bright and cheery. |

well a couple of things off the top of the head...
Have you calibrated your HDTV DVI Input settings? (the settings are different on each input...Composite,Component,DVI etc)...so adjust the color, contrast (turn this down to at least halfway to start!),brightness,sharpness...until it looks like it should. also, how long of a HDMI-DVI cable are you using? try to keep it as short as possible...or even try a different cable? ...and last thought? on the PS3 settings do you have "RGB Full" set? (youre tv being a few years old, it should be set "RGB Limited" ) (PS3) XMB - Settings - Display Settings - RGB Full Range - Limited Last edited by crackinhedz; 08-18-2007 at 03:51 PM. |

300 is one of the grainiest movies out there. We're seeing a lot of people who don't understand what grain is complaining about it lately because of this title.
The grain in 300 is intentional; as I understand it, the movie was shot on digital cameras and the original source footage is grainless. The post-processing used by the director is what added the grain - not as a side effect, but deliberately. A lot of people also have sharpness turned on, which makes the effect of 300's grain even worse by highlighting the particles. So first thing to do: Turn sharpness on your TV down to 0. It does not make your image "sharper", it only adds Edge Enhancement, which is BAD. Second thing to do: Check your settings by popping in a CGI disc like Chicken Little. You should see zero grain or noise in that title - if you're still seeing speckles, there's something else wrong because it's most certainly not on the disc. |

thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'll try some of these ideas out and i'll let you know if anything changes. I can also agree with the fact that it may be intentional for 300 because I saw some grain in a downloaded trailer on the computer.
